Newer phones came with Bing as the only option, older ones came with Bing or google. Seems Denim removes the option from older phones. No biggie since Google as a company must die.

I'd read this was coming... Can't remember where or I'd link it. The news was out some time ago (December?) after Denim OTA hit some phones.

I bleieve it has nothing to do with New or older phones.

When I bought my lumia 930, back in June last year, I was unable to choose the default search provider in IE. My Lumia is a GBIE CV. However, after I have flashed IT CV I am able to choose it (I use google instead of bing). And I am still able to choose it, even after denim update.

So I think it is market dependant.
