You need Visual Studio 2013 installed first.
You don't need it installed first as the SDK installs the express version. All you need is Windows 8.1 installed.

Interesting. I was just going by the .chm which says that VS2013 is a prerequisite, so I did it in that order.

I installed VS2013 Express, then installed the leaked update.

Then, I open VS, open an app sln file (I'm using a demo from the leaked docs), and press the 'play' button on the toolbar that sends it to the emulator.

I can't figure out how to get this installed. I keep getting an error: "The form specified for the subject is not one supported or known by the specified trust provider."

sadly I can not install hehe have a dual core processor with 2Gb ram and windows 8.1 32 bit ;pc is swift; will wait for developer preview since many features are disabled in this SDK(Microsoft knew some developers will publish this so they didn't implemented many features ; action centre ,voice assistant , etc. on this sdk)

I strongly recommend you DO NOT install this version as you could get yourselves and the developers into trouble.

Microsoft could pull the plug on the entire preview because of this.

I was invited for the preview and its best to just wait a little for the official update as its not long from now.
Any guesstimate as to when? I'm really eager to get started working on 8.1...

Already posted a picture of month view on another thread but here it is again. Strangely though, Agenda view is gone.

Maybe they want to replace Agenda view with a What's Next view like on Windows 8.1!!

Install Visual Studio Express 2013, then install the 8.1 SDK from this iso: winphoneviet.WPSDK8.1DevPreview
All other iso files I used would not work, but the one on this link does work for me. If it still doesn't work, try searching the error that pops up.

To expand on what he said, here's the exact procedure I used to install mine:

    1) Install a Windows 8 VM using VMWare Player
    2) Update VM to Windows 8.1
    3) Install Visual Studio 2013 Express Windows Edition (not web edition, not windows desktop edition, just plain "windows" edition for windows store apps. The others don't work)
    4) Shut down VM and add the lines "hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE"" and "mce.enable = "TRUE"" to my VMX file to enable the Hypervisor emulators
    5) attach the ISO as a drive and run VS2013.1.exe in the root directory
    6) Reboot and voila, it works!

Whew. All that effort and it's pretty much operating exactly like a regular Windows Store app would, except using the phone emulator. At least so far I haven't found any differences from the regular WinRT API.

I'm having all sorts of errors on my laptop. It's a 64bit running 8.1, Hyper -v is enabled too. Is it not compatible with 8.1?? Because that's just silly

Huh I hadn't tried that, and I really like what it does. The calendar sort of slides open giving you this:

I get this error too! It's very frustrating, and I get that error, especially when trying to install Windows Phone 8.1 Emulators.

See what happens if you try to install it when you're not connected to the internet. What fixed my installation was editing some settings on my PC to stop certification of files over the internet. Perhaps it would work just by disabling the internet.
