I have had the Lumia 920 (windows phone 8.1 update 1) since dec 12. And i am pretty close to giving up on windows phone. There is nothing exciting in the pipeline. The phone's battery life has gone down to 6-8 hours. Can't complain about this cause I am running Developer preview.

Here maps has given me bad directions last couple of times and Bing maps couldnt even find a place that has been open in my neighborhood for a couple of months. I have the latest map updates. And yes google came to the rescue every time.

I am thinking about using my spare moto g to try out android for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

I am waiting for the first week of sept to make my decision. I might either go with Moto X+1 and Moto 360 route or iphone 6 with iWatch.

I have a Lumia 920 and love it. If I didn't, I would probably wait to see what announcements are made in the next couple weeks. In addition to the new iPhone and Android phones, it is generally expected that some new Lumias and other Windows Phones will be announced for fall/early winter release.

HERE Maps didn't support my country so I can't say how good it was. But I too moved back to Android and I'll give you a recommendation.

Try Sygic, it's hands down the best offline navigation experience out there with very accurate results.

It's a paid app but well worth it, they give you a one week trial to try it out. I paid $19, haven't regretted doing so.

Any other help you need with Android, feel free to message me.

Why don't people ever put these threads in Phone Wars where they belong? Sigh.

To the OP: You appear to have battery issues with your 920 that I don't have with my 920. You don't say whether you've done anything to try to correct them. Errors on GPS maps are a fact of life; none of them are perfectly accurate or up to day. If Google Maps is better in your locale, by all means use it. If Android is better for you, by all means use it. For now, I'm having more fun with WP than I had with Android, so I'm staying for a while. Please feel free to do what's best for you.

I have a Lumia 620 and I absolutely love the support offered for a budget device. Neither Apple nor Google can match it. In my opinion,
Apple-No SD slot, no fm radio,no file manager, file sharing via Bluetooth is tedious, no wireless charging, no glance screen/notification led, small screen, no clear black display, bad battery life, etc
Android-Slow, buggy, no updates at all or very few updates(cannot match MS, ever), no fm on high-end phones, no official file manager by default(Nexus) , no wireless charging, bad battery life.
Nokia Lumia 1520 absolutely kills all the competition!

Never shown erroneous data on my Indian Lumia 620. Also it's offline, so that itself is a killer feature over Google maps.

I have had addresses local to me that bing, here, google, co-pilot (on android) or dedicated GPS' couldn't find... and these are addresses that have existed for years. some of theme, google gets me closest, others are all bing/here or my car's gps. not all GPS maps are perfect.

The OP has to do whatever they feel is best for them but I have found that WP is a darned good product and is easier to use and less obnoxious than anything android Ive played with. To each their own, of course. iOS is pretty good and I like my iPad Air a lot but WP is great for a phone OS.

A lot of the features you are mentioning here aren't available on the 620, to be precise. Such as wireless charging, notification LED, 620 had an even smaller screen than the iPhone.

And the support you are talking about, Google, or to be more specific, Motorola offers it. Apple is out of the question as it doesn't make low-end products.

But Motorola with it's Moto E and G has provided quite a lot of updates, with Android L also confirmed. The only advantage I see of a Lumia 520, 620 or above is the fact that they have pretty decent cameras compared to the low-end Android offering but other than that the Android side packs way more stuff.

I take it that your assumptions about Android being slow and laggy are because you have used a low-end device? We'll coming from a person who uses a Nexus 5 right now, I can confidentially tell you that Android isn't laggy.

We don't need an official file manager when we have a host of other pretty amazing ones.

You can't judge Android for not giving updates, while yes I admit that fragmentation is an issue do you forget that Microsoft abandoned all Windows Phone 7 devices? Windows Phone doesn't have the best history with updates, either.

I don't think that there is a huge use of FM Radio for most of us anymore, given that you can listen to it via WiFi but there are certain high end phones that still support FM, I think the HTC One M8 does as well.

We don't have bad battery life either.

If the 1520 "killed" the competition like you say it would be the best selling device right now, it isn't, it probably doesn't even make the Top 10.

I moved from Android and I'm never going back. I love my 1520 love the battery life large screen and best of all no more lags like I used to get with my Note 2.
You would be comparing nearly a two year old "SAMSUNG" device to something that launched less than an year back.

The Note 2 had weak hardware, the 1520 does not.

My phone runs Android, with specifications identical to the 1520 and everything goes along very smoothly.

I am not trying bash windows phone here. I like it. Along with above mentioned issues, lack of good hardware is another issue. 930 which has got the same specs as a phone that was release 6 months ago. Next two in the pipleline, 830 and 730 are not really flagships. I thought 1530 was a bit too big for me. And damn AT&T in the US, has handicapped the phone by removing Qi.

Microsoft needs to be a bit more assertive when dealing with these damn carriers. May be sell unlocked cross carrier cheap phones a la Nexus. These exclusive phones ultimately are bad for windows phone market share. Fortunately the M8 is coming to AT&T.

I am going to stop my rant.

PS - If you buy a nexus or a motorola, you should get the updates right away. Also i have played with the moto G before, it works great and i'd even say it runs and feels better than 520. But again the moto g cost 50% more when they were first released.

Not sure if you have, but I would do a hard reset to 8.0 then DP 8.1, lots of people have found that dramatically improved battery usage. My 920 is running pretty well, but I plan to do a hard reset (for the first time) before going Cyan then DP8.1.1 to see if it helps maximize the performance/battery life until I make the call to upgrade to the next major device that fits my needs/desires.
