do I have to charge the battery for many hours on first use?

on older phones and laptops I've been advised to charge the battery for 5-16 hours on first use
is that still recommended ?

Yes It's to calibrate the battery, but I charged mine 2 hours, took it off, let it drain till 5% and kept repeating that for a week

Edit: In case you're wondering how the battery is performing...

Heavy use -- 5 hours without charge (6 if i turn on battery saver)

Moderate use -- 6-7 hours (+1 with batt saver)

Very low usage (checking for time and notifications) -- 8-9 hours (+1 with batt saver)

I recommend charging it until its full and either unplugging and going, or you can leave it in, it'll stop when its full.

with modern batteries, you could pretty much use them as you wish.
