Why does Google hold events on days Microsoft has already chosen for big events?

If google is ripping off the other OS's. Can nothing be done since Google's OS is open source ? Can someone answer this?

Sent from my SGH-i677 using Board Express

"Open Source doesn’t mean free… although there are many systems, applications and platforms available that are free.Open Source does not mean unsupported. Open Source means that the code is available for all developers to see. Usually the goal of Open Source is that a community of developers can contribute improvements to the system, application or web platform and everyone in the community can benefit."

Many people think of Google as a more ethical alternative to Microsoft but if they ever took a closer look at Google's ways they would realize that Google is a pretty sleazy company.

Not sure either company is good, both will sell their own grand mother to make more money.

The difference is Microsoft only think of the money, so no matter what they do, they try to get every possible penny out of it. Which means Microsoft will never take anything over 100%, because you'll always get a cheaper alternative.

Google on the other hand, are far more clever. They don't care about piracy, they make want everything to be "free", and want to guarantee the only way to make money out of software is with advertising. And who controls the advertising? Google of course. Google will eventually kill Microsoft and Apple, because people are just tight, they don't see what Google are doing to the industry, they just care about the price of what they are buying. Thats why everything is made in China these days, because price is more important than anything else.

Interestingly, Google is having real issues in China, which will be the major source of income in the future. If Google is to ever be beaten, it'll be a chinese equivolent, that doesn't have to put up with all the legal hurdles in the US.

Then explain Apple. Their products have always been more expensive than their competitors - yet they have been exceedingly successful.

Its pretty simple. Apple have never aimed to take over everything, they just want to maintain their expensive niche status. They don't care about the fights over stats, or pricing, they have a defined set of products, for customers who will pay for a well designed, well supported product, and they are very good at things like accessories, and software, that tie you into their eco-system, so it costs to leave.

I'm sure thats kind of what Microsoft want to do with the windows 8 eco-system. Rather than having a console, a phone, a tablet, and a PC, you suddenly have an eco-system, and suddenly theres more reason to get a surface over a iPad, or a WP8 over an Android, because of everything on your xbox or PC. Once you are tied into an eco-system, its hard to escape, yet its easier to get deeper in.

They aren't selling you a product. They are selling you an idea that getting Apple makes you part of something unique, niche and hip. That's why people want to be seen with Apple products, as they aren't associated with the norm that are PCs. The differentiating power of Apple compared to what Microsoft and Google are doing. They are like Ferrari. Sure, other cars get you from point to point. But what ride gets you from point to point in style?

Don't kid yourself. There has always been sales, there have always been price competitions between competing products, and there has always been a push for companies to find the cheapest possible way to get their products to market. China is that way now. Back in the day before global marketing and manufacturing, stuff was made in the cheapest cities where the cheapest workers could be found.

fairly common tactic. The iPhone came out almost immediately after kindle fire, and stealing its thunder. The iPad mini is gonna come out a week before W8.

It's almost like those are competing businesses trying to outdo each other!

This is something that just occured to me. Microsoft always comes out with dates for big events and after a few days you also hear Google planning an event on that same day; time and location may vary though. For example; Google released the soo called Motorola Droids the same day Microsoft talked about Windows Phone 8...I think a couple of months ago. Now Microsoft has planned Windows Phone 8 launch on October 29th and as you all know from last week, Google has also planned to release the next Nexus on that same day....Now is this a coincidence or Foul play??

Foul play in a sense to divide the number of techies who will attend these events....as you know these two giant companies don't go along very well (Google being too stingy with Microsoft and even refusing to release offical apps for Windows Phone.....and what pains me a lot is Microsoft always taking care of them by releasing beautiful apps and better servicies to Android)....but this is a different discussion alltogether.

What do you think??

They do it to try and get some press on them at the same time. If you have seen Google exec's comments in the past year you should have seen that Google takes Microsoft very seriously in every arena. They have seen Microsoft be late to market only to finally come in and crush the market. Windows crushed Macs. IE crushed Netscape. Word/Office crushed Word Perfect. Xbox may not have been quite so dominating but it is a force in gaming and Microsoft moved right into that established market.

I'm not saying Bing or WP8 could do this over night. But IMO Google is going to be there at every turn to not be the next Netscape trampled over and left for dead by Microsoft. They know Microsoft is fully capable of doing it to anyone at anytime. They should be doing the things they are doing.

To be fair Microsoft has sued pretty much every Android OEM, so it's not exactly one sided.

Details would be appreciated since this is otherwise just trolling BS. Microsoft's approach has been patent enforcement and royalty collections and those have not required nearly the legal effort as Apple. It is also why Microsoft makes money off of every Android phone sold.

It is pretty much just the nature of the industry. With that said though, Google is a remarkably immature company that doesn't play by rules of engagement that have existed for decades. While it is common for companies to schedule their events and then have a competitor schedule something the same week, Google will choose the same day. Quite frankly, it speaks of an organizational pettiness and arrogance that exists behind the smiley faces and lava lamps. I have always disliked the company and will happily sell the Transformer Prime I own as soon as there is a Windows RT alternative.

Of course the irony is that Google's market position and pile of cash are more a product of the economic environment when they went public. They started out with a laughably over valued IPO but people were willing to buy that sort of stuff at the time. They didn't earn their market position (outside of search) and the company's attitudes and arrogance reflect that reality....
