My university allows our timetable to be exported from their servers onto personal calendars using the *ICS calendar format. I have read reports that Windows Phone 7 does not support this functionality (See Import Your ICS Calendar Entries To WP7 | I'm Just Being Manan and http://forums.windowscentral.com/lumia-900/189758.htm).

My current Android phone (2.3.3) does not support native ICS import through the phone; instead, I have to import it into Gmail or Outlook first, then sync.

However, on the iPhone, my friends are able to directly load their timetables using ICS through clicking the link on the university's webpage.

Does WP8 support native ICS calendar importation?

Well according to this, they do work on WP7:

Meeting invite from iPhone. Ics file is not associated to any - Microsoft Community

I haven't tried it myself so I can't confirm. I am not sure how much different things are in WP8 as yet so it's hard to say if it is any different yet.

Edit: Ah my bad, read that slightly wrong. You mean from an .ics file link on a web page not via email invite.

Go to calendar.live.com and log in using your Microsoft account.

Then do Subscribe>Import from ICS and your imported date will sync to the phone.

If you Import from ICS, I believe, that is a one off import rather than subscribing.
If you subscribe to the ICS url (in your Windows Live calendar) it will be added as a secondary calendar, which sadly will not then get sync'd to your phone.

EDIT: Found this, which works great for me, so my suggestion if Windows Live calendar isn't working would be to setup a google calendar account and do it this way. :)
