Google extending WP Activesync till end of July

The Verge is reporting that Google has announced it will extend it's support of ActiveSync for WP until July 31, 2013.

Wouldn't this also effect iOS users who use Google Sync's EAS support to sync their contacts and calendars? Well if they get a new account anyways...I am just curious because they keep posting this everywhere as a Windows Phone issue but isn't it bigger than that?

I personally think they tried this to get people to not get a windows phone... And instead found users of windows phone leaving the Google ecosystem entirely. I did.

iOS supports DAV natively if you use the Gmail app or set up your Gmail account as IMAP. You have to enter your account info twice, but you still get mail, contacts and calendars without EAS.

Imap does not support push, so this does also help those iOS users who don't want to use the GMAIL app.

You realize this gives us a maximum timeline for the next firmware update.

Hope to get one before then but this is the maximum duration before it has to roll out to everyone.
