Switching SIM card / carrier - reset necessary?

Hello good people!

I remember that on WP7, the rule of thumb was that you couldn't switch the SIM card to a different carrier without factory-resetting the phone. What's the situation like on WP8? My new SIM card is going to be activated tomorrow and I am wondering if I can just switch it and be good to go, or do I have to reset the phone to defaults so that it will read configurations from the SIM card?

I am using an unlocked Lumia 820.

I had a Lumia 800 and now use an 820.

I frequently travel to USA and have an AT&T SIM that I use when there, Vodafone when in the UK.

Never been asked to reset, only notification I ever get is with regards to the internet settings.

I just talked to Verizon about this and since they and Sprint now support both GSM (Europe) and CDMA (US and parts of Asia) you no longer need to switch cards. You add their Global Plan month to month as you need it. At&t is GSM.
