XP wont detect my WP8

Got a HTC 8S about 2 months ago, and to date my main PC (windows XP) will not detect the device, so its impossible for me to transfer files etc.

It only reads the device as a Camera.. so the device is dipslayed with a Camera icon on the my computer list (meaning i can only tranfer photos).

I also have issues with my WP7 net-book - where it only randomly detects the device (i.e. it will be present in my device list one minute and then gone for the rest of the session).

I have tried different USB ports and the cables are fine etc.

Very very frustrating !!! as Neither of my windows PC's can detect my new Windows Phone !! but my old samsung android was always detected.

Easy fix, plug you phone to your PC and run manual Windows Update. This will download the latest update, and you should be good to go.

Thanks this actually worked for me.

I have a Windows XP PC at work and have never been able to connect my phone to it, It would register but wouldn't install the drivers so i couldn't view any files via explorer.

Installing WMP11 seemed to fix this issue and I can now view my 8X as a MTP device.
