The fact that Microsoft allows this is really stupid.

Go to the store and type Youtube. The top downloaded is an app literally named YouTube (mobile site wrapper I think). This app has a 5* rating. The thing is, the other YouTube app is just a trial, and prompts you to pay $3 dollars. Since people think its the actual real YouTube made by Google they go ahead and pay $3 dollars no question. And complain in the reviews.

Under that app is the actual YouTube app made by Microsoft. Same name, almost the same logo. This has a 3* rating.

Stuff like this is ridiculous. When consumers type in YouTube, they are going to download the first thing they see. Its a shame really...

I do not agree with that at all. Your suggestion would crush the innovative spirit that is WP. I've always liked MSFT's approach of building and maintaining the core and letting the 3rd party devs improve upon it or build appa around it. Your suggestion would do nothing but to crush the spirit of innovation.

Forcing ddevelopers to change their app name is hardly crushing the "spirit of innovation". Wrapping a mobile site and using the sites name for a quick buck is hardly innovative. To me, Metrotube and Gleek are innovative spins on a high profile app.

There is no fix necessary! Download, buy, install the app which suits your needs.
Blocking apps with similar or identical names would be like not allowing someone to have the name Benjamin Franklin.

If they allowed no duplicate names I could just flood the market with Beta shell apps with the names of all big name apps that haven't been released yet, turning the names for a profit when they start coming into WP8

The Windows 8 Store does not allow duplicate names. The first step to create an app is to reserve your app name. In fact, they encourage you to reserve your name before you even start coding, so that someone doesn't publish under that name. Otherwise you have to choose a new name and may have to update your code to reflect the new name.

So if you have an app named Drink Fountains. This app helps you find drink fountains around the area. Y

Then I come right behind you and make the exact same app, with the exact same name you don't think anything is wrong with that? Come on man.
