With MS, Apple, and Google trying to refine all of their OSes into one, why doesn't MS beat all of them? W8 and RT could easily be scaled down for smaller devices (With desktop removed) and alot of the apps for W8 are on WP and vice versa, not to mention that W8 might run WP apps come blue. Eventually, I could see MS just giving a software update to WP that installs W8.1,8.2 or whatever version is out by then.

There are obvious reasons! Imagine playing Crysis 3 on a 4-5" screen provide there is strong enogh GPU, gaming is one big thing, then there are countless softwares like photoshop which are simply useless on a 5" device. Battery life again is a huge problem.

It will get there eventually. WP8 was a big jump moving to the NT kernal. It wil be pretty sweet.

I would like to ask MS this question in context of XBox one, it has better hardware than most mid range desktops, will it run full W8? It should!

I would not want w8 structure on my phone, for the scrolling to be horizontal, that would happen if they want to have a streamlined version of each platform.

    Reason 1) A W8 Install is what > than 20GB?
Reason 2) The start screen tiles would be tiny on the screen, you would need a different shell, hence WP8 which has a shell designed for the phone.
Reason 3) Removing unnecessary Legacy stuff, MS want everyone to be in the Modern UI in the future, they have desktop there now for legacy compatibility but the future plan is to do away with it altogether, so the phone OS is the future essentially (Think Windows RT with no desktop mode, that's where we are headed).
Reason 4) Security, WP8 is designed such that it doesn't require a file browser, this is part of a new enhanced security model OS, again the future.

So these be the reasons why, yes physically you could run WinRT on an ARM phone and W8 on a x86 phone, but its not the grand plan to do so ;)

Oh and apparently this mob want to do it The Windows 8 phone "Intelegent" exists: PC World claims to have seen footage | Windows Phone Central but yah they are bucking the trend essentially!

They could always do an Ubuntu for Phones and have an interface for the phone but hook it up to a keyboard, mouse and monitor via a dock and it effectively becomes a desktop.

They already answered this one. It is running windows 8, and a game OS and an OS to tie the two together.
Xbox One runs three operating systems, including cut-down Windows for apps
