Hi all... I'm new to the Windows Phone OS (So new I don't actually have a windows phone yet...) I picked up an HTC trophy the week it was released on Verizon a few years ago, but had some problems with it so I took it back and switched platforms. I was thinking about giving the OS another try and could use some advice on what to pick up. I would be finding one on ebay since I'm still in contract and everything. After doing a little bit of reading on here, am I right in saying that my two main options would be the Lumia 928 and the HTC 8x?

If anyone had any thoughts or comments on what to look at, I'd appreciate it.

The 928 and 8X are definitely your best options on Verizon. There is also the Lumia 822 which you'd be able to get off contract for a little cheaper.

My GF just got the 928 and loves it. I'm actually a little jealous because the 928 has AMOLED but my 920 is LCD.

I've had my white 928 for three weeks now, and am very pleased with it. I went with the 928 because it has more internal storage (32 gb to the 8x's 16 gb), The 8x has had issues with the corners of the phone becoming discolored, and the 928 has issues with the capacitive buttons looking splotchy and discolored. Sadly, mine suffers from this, but it's only noticeable when the buttons are backlit. I'd say go to a store and play with both phones just to see how they feel to you, and keep researching the OS and the phones before you committ to purchasing one off contract.

Definitely go with the Nokia 928. The support by Nokia for their products is great. Plus it has a much better camera and more memory for your phone.

The only plus about the HTC 8x is simply the way the phone looks however as stated above the 8x has an issue with the corners of the phone discoloration.

Definitely recommend the Nokia 928 or if you want a slightly cheaper phone then get the 822 by Nokia.

I got my 822 before the 928 and am loving it. Naturally I looked at the 928 when it came out but didn't like those really "square" corners. The ability to add storage to the 822 it's a big plus.

I agree. The 822 is expandable up to 64 GB and also has a user replaceable battery, a big plus for me. I got mine as an upgrade prior to the 928s release so I got it for free. I bought the wireless charging back for it and have been very happy so far.

Wow... Thank you all for the quick replies. I did two seconds of research on the 822. I may jump on that to get my feet wet into the OS. I still have some research to do into things. The removable battery, storage, and wireless charging are definite pluses for me I think.

Is it fairly modern? I don't know much but have heard some complaining on other sites that some windows phones get abandoned and not updated. Will the 822 run the latest and greatest stuff that I see posted on the WPCentral homepage?

Definitely! The 822 came out in Nov as the first Nokia WP8 on Verizon. I fell in love with it from the get go and have been very happy with it.

The 822 is your best option for an off contract purchase seeing how you just want to get your feet wet. I've seen several on Craigslist for 200 or less lately.
