Switching from gmail.com to outlook.com alias?

I had my Microsoft account using my gmail account as the primary but I recently created an alias. It appears I can't use the alias from my phone. If I switch the new outlook.com alias to my primary will it create any issues on my phone and Windows 8.1?

Alternatively, is there any way to add an inbox, such as a secondary Microsoft account to the phone? I have done that with two gmail accounts and they seem to work fine. But the Microsoft account is highly integrated with the phone's settings.

not sure about the alias. you can add more outlook.com, Hotmail accounts as email, but not a secondary Microsoft account which is used to utilize all Microsoft services on the phone e.g. store, chat, office, etc.
