Toyota released Entune in its cars in 2011, this application is compatible only with iOS and Android and that leave Windows users specifically Windows Phone users without essential features like Traffic, Weather and Bing.

So I started an online petition to Toyota asking to stop with this discrimination

as much as I'd like to sign this (i can't due to work policies), don't you think it's a little ridiculous to expect platform support for anything but 1st and 2nd place in the mobile marketspace

I took a survey for my recent Toyota purchase and one of the questions pertained to windows phones..

I don't think it is ridiculous to support windows phone. It is a bonifide number 3 and Microsoft has the funds to keep the platform going.

3 platform support has never been an issue before, yet now with mobile phones they say the resources are limited... I say people just don't want to do it because it is windows...

I will support this as I am tired of the scraps or no support... We support them and we are many who are willing to pay.

I don't think so, to me everything is simpler, they are selling a product, in this case a car which accessories or features should be compatible with everything in the market. I'm NT that nave to think that if tomorrow somebody comes with a new phone os Toyota has to run and release a version for it. But, Windows Phone is not a small market neither Blackberry and both have been around even before the Entune release.

Lets say, that Toyota have sold only 1000 cars to Windows Phone owners, we are talking here about $25,000,000. So the less they can do is to invest a little bit of those 25 millions in releasing versions for all the markets.

We even may have an official demand here, they are selling a product with essential features like traffic and weather which are advertised by them and that are not available unless you buy specific phones. And that part is not advertised in any place neither mentioned when you are buying the car. I never saw a sign in the car saying: THIS CAR IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH IPHONE AND ANDROID PHONES.

The Tweddle Group is the provider for the Entune App.
Toyota pays them, so that is a good way to go, but actually writing an email to the Tweddle Group might be a decent way of backdooring your way into one of their Project Management topics. Maybe that will increase traction. Entune Multimedia System

How to use Toyota Entune with Windows Phone 8.1 Update1 (Developer Preview)

Entune is the name of Toyota's internet-enabled suite of car apps.
When you try to use one of the Entune apps (e.g. Bing) that needs an internet connection after pairing your Windows Phone to the car, the car will show an error message about your phone not having the Entune app. It implies that app is required. The Toyota website indicates that the Entune app is not available for Windows Phone.
Good News! A phone Entune app is not required to make the car's Entune apps work. The apps need internet connectivity via the phone. WP8.1 Update 1 adds support for the Bluetooth Personal Area Network (BTPAN) profile, which allows the phone to serve as a "hotspot" via BT in a way similar to how phones can act as Wifi access points.

To use Entune with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1:

    Part 1: Phone Setup
Your cellular data plan must allow your phone to share data via other devices. Go to the phone Settings -> "internet sharing" page. If the Sharing On/Off switch does not allow you to turn Sharing On, then that's probably because your data plan does not allow you to share data. You will have to contact your MO to add data sharing to your plan.
While in the Settings -> "internet sharing' page, set the "Share over" item to "Bluetooth". Then place a checkmark in the "Allow Bluetooth devices..." checkbox.

Part 2: Toyota Entune Account Setup
If you have not created an Entune account, then go to www dot myentune dot com (this can be done from any web browser, you don't have to use your phone) and create an account. You will need your Toyota's VIN, which you can find most easily on your auto insurance card.

    Part 3: Car Setup
These instructions are for my car which is a 2013 Prius. The UI will be somewhat different for other model years and makes.
    1. Go to the Bluetooth setup screen on the car.
    2. Tap "Paired Device List"
    3. Tap the name of your WP
    4. Tap the "gears" icon (which is on the right side of the "Connect for Internet" button on my car display)
    5. Tap "DUN/PAN Connections"
    6. Tap the screen to place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Enable DUN/PAN Connections
    7. Tap "Entune Account" and enter your account info

That should have completed the configuration of your car.
You should now be able to tap any of the Entune apps shown in the car UI and they should establish data connections to the internet via your phone.
Let me know if these instructions dont work for you. Its possible that I missed something.

    Hi Jeff,
I followed all of your instructions except the part "While in the Settings -> "internet sharing' page, set the "Share over" item to "Bluetooth". I have a Nokia Lumia 1520 and it has an "Internet Sharing" button that I switched on but it never gave me the option to set to "Share over" item to "Bluetooth"so I was never able to get it to work. Any suggestions? Thanks...

FYI - these directions do not apply to the newest version of Entune - I just got a Camry 2014.5, and this version of Entune (Entune Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite) does not display a "Connect for Internet" option for Windows Phone paired bluetooth device. Only Music and Phone. This is a bummer indeed.

Nokia/ Microsoft tells me that AT&T still has not received the update to 8.1 that enables internet sharing over Bluetooth, and attempting to install the developer's preview will void all warranties. Has anyone done this install on an AT&T phone?

I can't comment about AT&T, however I've not seen one post on this forum about someone saying that Nokia/MS has voided their warranty. I wouldn't worry too much about that...

No one at Nokia /Microsoft would provide instructions for installing the 8.1 update (which they called "Denim") on an AT&T WP. Further they said no one would provide support or respond to any issues with the phone. Together with the reports here that Toyota has now taken steps to prevent using this workaround as a substitute for their app, the risk to benefit for the developer's version seems questionable. It also looks like an intentional effort on the part of the app developer to prevent using a Windows phone.
