1) With the 1020 you'll get a less heavy device, with mostly the same specs, except for the camera. You COULD get it, but unless you really think you'd need the camera, better wait.
2) The Lumia Icon is basically a scaled down 1520, or a future Lumia 930 designed exclusively for Verizon. So you could either get the 1520 or wait for the next wave of devices.

If you can wait a few months, do it. Phones that are designed specifically for 8.1 will be out.

That's horrid advice. We really don't know anything other than rumour, and we all know there can be all sorts of delays after devices are announced. The US is generally quick to get new phones, but often we see the RoW having to wait months after a US release.

I'd ask the OP two simple questions:

1. Is there something about your 920 that requires replacement?

2. If you just want a new phone, when do you really want it by?

I am looking hard at the 1520 with 32GB on ATT or waiting for an 8.1 device with at least 32GB and sd card support

I don't need to replace the 920 but we all like the most recent phones.... better screens, more processing power etc.
The 1520 is too big.

The 1020 is the top model in the UK at the moment.

I'm in New Zealand and we won't see any new lumias anytime soon so I think I'm go 1020 and keep watching the rest of the world

Hi John
I had a 920 before, now I own a 1020 myself, a fantastic device! The only drawback in my opinion is that it is missing the native wireless charging function. There is an extra charging cover for that...

What I do love is the camera of course. Then there is the possibility to attach a tripod, using the extra camera grip (with extra juice in it!). Best 'phone' I've ever had!

When it comes to smartphones there is always the question 'should I wait', and there is never the right time to buy ;-)

Its pointless upgrading the 920 to a 1020, its exactly the same but with a better camera and no built-in wireless charging. Its also almost as old as the 920 so if there's nothing wrong with it, you might as well await until summer when 8.1 devices are likely to hit - unless the Icon makes its way out of the US.

Normally there is very little delay between US and UK as long as is isn't one of the stupid US operator variants like most recent phones have been.

Unless, of course, the camera is a killer feature for him.

I wouldn't say the 1020 is the top model, surely the 1520 is top windows phone in the uk now.

If I were you and you just wanted something different until the you see what comes out in the summer then I would suggest getting a 925 32gb and if your worried about losing built in wireless charging then just do the mod that puts the wireless charging coil inside it. I did it with both my 925's and they are fine.
