Transferring from WP7.8 to WP8.....HELP!

I've searched high and low for days for the answers to my questions, and I'm not finding what I need to know, so I figured as a last ditch effort I'd ask here.

I currently have a Nokia Lumia 900, have used it for about 7 months or so, and really like it. My HTC 8x arrived in the mail a few days ago. On the Lumia 900 I've used Zune to sync pictures and music to my Windows 8.1 PC, and I gather that WP8 doesn't offer the option to use Zune any longer, which is a bummer, because syncing my pics and music would be so simple if it did. Nokia Transfer devices are out because the new phone is HTC. And as far as I can tell, there is no way to transfer all my SMS messages, am I correct?

Just use OneDrive. Transfer all your photos and stuff to your OneDrive and then on your new phone they'll be there. Texts, not 100% sure, but I'm almost certain you're just gonna lose those, WP8 does back them up though, if you so choose.

Well there is a WP8 sync app from MS which does, not to extent Zune did though.

Your live a account should automatically back up your texts.

From what I've read, SMS backup thru Live account wasn't available with Wp7.8.
