I wont get a 8X.... unless it was used on a fourm... I want a 920 on Verizon but, of course Verizon is pissing us Windows Phone users again. They get the lowest end WP7 device (yes, the trophy was the entry level/lowest cost WP device) and now they wont even get us the High end phone.

The 8X is NOT high end...

My main phone is Verizon, but honestly, the only BIG difference around here (to me anyway) between the big 4 carriers is that Verizon and ATT are more expensive. I will be buying the handset (920) outright and use either T-MO, Straighttalk or one of the other pre-paid providers.

If I were to buy the 920 outright, could it be used on Verizon?

Either Nokia or the carriers who aren't stocking the 820 & 920's need to go public and explain how the Lumias ended up as exclusives on certain networks around the globe.

It's not fair if someone blames Nokia and goes with another OEM.... or on the other hand, lays blame with their OEM and switches network.

We need transparency.

AT&T. Led the charge getting rid of quality data plans. The iPhone sheep that I know almost all left for Verizon as soon as they got the iPhone. AT&T has crap coverage and service and I don't see that many people switching.

It's a real shame that the standard of service across the carriers is so inconsistent, in the US. It actually doesn't make a lot of sense, TBH.

I guess we're quite lucky in the UK. Whether I'm with Vodafone, 3, O2, Orange/T-Mobile, or Virgin, it doesn't really matter in terms of coverage and tariffs.

Competition is healthy for consumers.

LOL! They don't play that game here. They play follow the leader. If he can get $80, I can get $90. If he can get $90, I can get $100.,,,,, :D

If they were actually competing the price would go the other way and now you're talking about a potential drop in revenue, and that is totally unacceptable. :D

That really stinks, palandri! I really don't understand why the big hitters aren't going after each others territory - making for a more competitive market. I couldn't stand being stranded with one provider.....especially if that provider gave a sub-par service...

I understand what you are saying, but Nokia are most likely trying to stay on the good side of Verizon. I really can't believe this was Nokia's choice. There is more going on here, but transparency is not what I expect to see.

Unless we see a variant version of the 920. Then we'd will be happy

I emailed the CEO and Nokia Feedback and told them how Nokia made a very large mistake with letting AT&T take exclusivity especially since verizon is going to be making a large windows 8 push. I explained by doing this they are selling their flagship phone short since in America where family plans are the prevailing plan less people are willing to switch networks. They both got back to me. The CEO said "noted" and the support said that the 920 would be coming later in the year. I took later in the year to be some time in 2013. Which by that time most people that are getting in on the windows 8 party early will already have a phone they just got.

Essentially they are going to sell about 30% as many devices as they would have.

The problem we have with price here is a little different than just the networks competing. Verizon has way better coverage in most areas. Since that's the case they can charge what they want. ATT is their biggest competition but doesn't have to compete with price because their coverage isn't the same.

If the coverages were the same I think there would be more competition.

So the 920 is coming to Verizon now?

Subject: Lumia 920 AT&T Exclusive

I just want to say that when Nokia announced the Lumia 920. It was one of the few times I was actually excited about an American Nokia device.

I have been talking up this phone to friends and family for months. I have told no less than 100 people in my sphere of influence.

Making the L920 an AT&T exclusive has just ruined your chances at becoming a dominant phone producer in the U.S.

I have always liked Nokia. This decision however has left a bad taste in my mouth. This is the second large mistake you've made since dropping Meego.

I fear that this decision though small in comparison to your sales overseas, will be the nail in the coffin for Nokia sales in the united states. I hope Europe and China go well. You have just sealed the deal making sure you can not compete in the United States.

You have lost one very influential follower. I will no longer look upon Nokia as a possible competitor with a good product. Thank you very much for the maps, they will probably be your only saving grace in the end. I will recommend everyone now steer clear of your devices as I don't believe after decisions like this Nokia will be around for long.

Sincerely a very disappointed fan,
Richard

So I was a little harsh and didn't get my point across very well but I wasn't in a pleasant sort of mood being that I just found out what nokia had done.

And here is the response from Nokia support:

You have to feel a little grateful you got a response. I do agree with you though about Verizon. I don't think anyone at Nokia REALLY believes they will get more sales from an exclusive, especially after the Lumia 900. I firmly believe that the requirement for LTE (no doubt from the carriers) held up the 900 from coming to market when it should, having a negative snowball effect.

The carriers have the upper hand right now and can push Nokia around and ask for things they want. Samsung are now popular enough that they call the shots. It's a catch-22 for the challenger device.

Hopefully ATT will really push the Lumia this time, but something tells me they will give it a good showing for a couple of weeks and then push it to the side.

I'm not too positive that AT&T could have forced an exclusive deal. If they would have tried I believe that Nokia could have easily gotten big red in on something ATT wanted that badly. I also think that since Verizon is going to have no less than 4 WP8 phones at launch on November 2nd that having the most desired one would have been icing on the cake for their advertising and launches.

Also I wasn't looking for a response. I just wanted them to know that doing this kind of crap when people like me are pushing the hype to the ignorant is going to harm them.

This also does give us the question as to what "later in the year" means. Doubt they only have a 30 day exclusive. if they do A lot of people are going to wait 30 days to adopt WP8.

ATT is marketing the 820 as an exclusive even though Verizon is getting the 822. Verizon will also get the 922. The question is when!

Do you have any sort of evidence for this, other than the 822? Not doubting necessarily, it just hasn't shown up that I have seen.

You could be right, they have other exclusive deals across the world. Maybe they only way they could get it to $199 with contract is to agree to an exclusive .. who knows ... but I do agree that if you understand the US market, you would know that churn is very low, a carrier exclusive just means less sales.

The reality is, things are never this simple in business, and strategy is never about one move.
