Maps and Drive sharing same maps?

I first downloaded the map for Belgium in the Maps app and then wanted to download the map in Drive, but it was already there.

Is this an example of how apps can now share data, or did it just download the map for my current location by itself?
If it's sharing, then that just saved me 130mb of bandwidth. Very nice!
