Hi all,

I've recently switched from the Focus S and haven't been able to for the life of me get the 8X's camera to autofocus on things up close.
Is there some secret which I've missed?

Thanks.

I have the 920, so not sure about 8x, but on my phone camera setting page the macro setting is actually under " scenes " and is called " close up " rather than macro, I had to test this to make sure because I kept looking for the word macro but couldn't find it so tried close up and it worked great, also didn't expect to find it under scenes either lol

For the Nokia Lumia 920 in my opinion there is no true Macro setting am sure because I heavily used my Samsung Focus S and it had a true Macro setting that would not dive in and out and take the worst shot at the last second like the Nokia Lumia 920 does! For me to take a true Macro shot I need to disable flash and disable auto focus and zoom in all the way! The auto focus sucks on the Lumia 920 for Macro shots! They need to create a setting it's a real pain in the ass for me! I usually take about 5-6 shots praying one of them actually look decent enough... I have a old Fuji camera and use it for my Microscope at work but seriously hate having to remove it from my Microscope to get a decent Macro shot!

Sorry I am a bit disgruntle as I was thinking this New Carl Zeiss lens would have been great! I do see the auto focus chime into the shot but it always chooses the worst focus at the last second... I did try all the settings but seriously needs Nokia to add a Lens setting for this...

Those look great. My only thought is that something is broke on my camera as when I shake the phone I can hear a slight jiggling sound like something is lose. Can anyone else comment on if they experience a similar sound? It might just be one of the buttons.

One last suggestion... and it may be a stretch... but is there a smudge/fingerprint on your lens? I found that the 8x, or at least mine, is really sensitive when the lens gets the slightest smudge on it.

Now if you're hearing rattling and are within your exchange/return period it may be worth swapping the 8X you have with a new one. I've got a slight rattle but it sounds more like the buttons jiggling. Nothing loud like the camera's come undone.

Thanks.

I clean my lens with my shirt everytime I use it as it's always dirty and I hate the cloudy pictures it takes if you don't.
It's probably the same sound which we're hearing. I'm not within my return period though and can't be bothered to send it to HTC for a repair, at least not right now.

Like some other people have been saying in previous posts, I used the "Close-up" camera setting and tapped the screen where I wanted the aperture to focus at.
