I have tried every setting there is on the Lumia 920 camera. But, even saving the files directly to my pc using USB, the picture size is only 918 x 1632, which is 1.5 Megapixels at 9:16 ratio. This camera is supposed to be 8.7 megapixels, which would be somewhere in the area of 2216 x 3936 at 9:16 ratio. How to I get this thing to take 2216 x 3936 images?

Not sure what you are doing but transferring images straight from the Lumia 920 via USB cable, my images are 3264x2448 at 72 dpi using the 4:3 ratio.
Print resolution would give you a 10x12" or so print.

Curious... are you editing the pictures while they are on the phone?

No I am not editing. Just plugging phone in to USB and copy/paste jpg's to pc. But always have used the 16:9 ratio setting. I will try using 4:3 and see if that changes.

It shouldn't matter... Have you tried to use the windows phone app? To do it though there? Only use that cause my surface replaced my laptop, but if the desktop version is anything like Zune, you should be able to adjust what quality you transfer pictures in

I did notice emailing photos taken on the phone results in 918 x 1632 pictures being sent. WP8 seems to be downsizing them.

If you are using the Windows Phone App to copy images to your computer, make sure you have the "re-size photos" option turned off in the Preferences menu.

I usually just go into Windows Explorer and copy/paste the images from my phone to the computer.

Oh... I agree, it shouldn't matter which aspect ratio you are using...

The 16x9 image is cropped native sensor size is 4:3, but even 16:9 is most of the sensor:

Uploaded to skydrive I get this info from a 16x9 image

I seem to be having a similar problem in the UK.
The setting in the camera for "camera resolution" has disappeared (it's still present and correct on my wife's HTC 8X) leaving the camera taking photos at something around 3-4MP

Is this something that other people have noticed?
