LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
Hi,
I am a Filipino and planning to buy a Lumia 920 or Lumia 720 next month if it will be available. Would you mind posting your experiences here so far(good or bad) with your new Lumia 920.
Thanks!
Please also add details as to carrier/service provider and store where you got your device!
-

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
Hi Pogi,
Thanks!
I have a bad experience on my previous lumia device, a lumia 800 which keep on freezing and was not resolved even after 3 exchange. I have no other choice but to return it after 7 months with a refund.
So before making a new purchase, I just wan't to make sure that Lumia 920-PH variant is actualy working here in Philippine shores without a problem.
Regards

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
So far so good. I find it cleaner and more user-friendly than iOS and android. If you're there for the apps, be warned, a lot of apps are missing though.
carrier: globe
but mine is the HK version LTE enabled but it isn't supporting LTE in the Philippines (so far from my experience when a friend of mine had the LTE icon on her phone while mine didn't, but the speeds are equally the same. I guess Globe/Smart still has problems enabling the service to other phones)

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
@cuzincurly, thanks for your input. I have been lurking here @nokiaphonecentral for a long time now so I know the WP app situation, I am not that app person though. If I will not hear freeze/reboots from PH users then I am happy to go. I have not checked the local stores yet, are the local variants shipped with Portico pre-installed?
-
Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
according to the nokia threat at pinoyexchange.com, the PH variants have portico in them. You could go to a Nokia store to see the look and feel of the phone first before buying.
If you have any questions, just ask. :)

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
Got my 920 today, I loved this phone the moment I first saw it (September 2012 around that time). I am pretty disappointed by the low light shots I took, especially since that's where the 920 is supposed to shine
-
Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
low light shots require a steady a steady hand. Try setting it to ISO 200, that also helps
-
Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
I agree with Pogi, I just boiught Lumia 920 two days ago here in Saudi Arabia. The phone is really great just notice about the battery which does not stay long enough for a day but I have read some post here that it will take some time to have the battery works at its best. So I will wait and see but so far I don't have any problem with it and i love this phone! :)
-
Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
Got my yellow Lumia 920 last week, and yes it is an awesome phone in every way :) it does come with Portico. So far, I haven't had any problems with my 920. My unit rides Smart's LTE signal but it doesn't ride Globe's, it's weird. But that's all right, I won't be using LTE anyway as it is a battery hog.
@albertph: the Lumia 920 takes the best low light shots vs any mobile phone now hands down (it even beats the new HTC One). You might have been disappointed because you might have set it up wrong. Try checking your settings if they are in night mode, with no flash. A very steady grip (or a phone tripod) helps a lot as low light shots tend to blur with the slightest movement. :)

I'm currently in the Philippines from the UK and I'm sporting a Lumia 920. Bought it from Clove. I'm pretty disappointed with the network speed here. All my accounts are tied to UK region so even though I'm here, I am still paying in GBP (Nokia Music+ - £3.99 and App Store). I don't mind though as long as I benefit from exclusive services not released here, I'm fine with it. My app store is still showing apps for UK.
What is the Manufacturer Model Name of Lumia 920s here?

What area or city in Philippines ... did you try both Smart and Globe ? - usually Smart is better, but not every area - just test it by yourself ...
Ingat :)
-
Globe.
Network speeds here are painfully slow. Can't wait to go back to UK.
And it's pretty darn hot in here.

I wish that I could be in Philippines ... as it is pretty darn cold in here :)
By the way, try to avoid using internet during rush hours there ... it might be still OK on early mornings, like 6 AM ... and try Smart too, it is usually faster one ...
-
I used to have sun cellular and it's great and cheaper...better net speed...

Turn on "night mode", don't leave it on Auto for night shots.

Hi All,
Thanks on all your inputs so far. For those having PH-Variants, are you also having dust getting on the FFC problem?

Hey guys! Red Lumia 920 owner here :) Anyone of you familiar with tipidcp.com? There's also a thread discussion there re Lumia 920 :)

Well, so much for Nokia's "high-quality standards" if their flagship phones keep suffering from hardware mishaps like these. I never saw a problem with any lower end Nokia device like the Lumia 820.

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
I bought mine last Thursday and returned it the next day. The screen freezes all the time even after hard reset. I m still waiting for the reversal on my atm payment. Has anyone have the same experience as mine?

No freezes here (over 3 months) ... did you use some cover or a screen protector ? - and did you also remove that plastic from a display ?
-
Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
Hi eric2013,
I have the freeze/reboot issue on my Lumia800(unlocked). Two swapboard and one exchange but not fixed in a 6mos. period. I still manage to have the refund/reversal on my account after 7 months from purchase. If I cannot wait for the 720. I will go with BBZ10 from Smart.
If the 920-PH variants still have the dust in the FFC issue then no go for me. I am just wondering why our carriers not getting WP8-Lumias..now Globe offering the AtivS based on our corporate plans.
Thanks,
-

I would suggest you to go MOA or any other SM, to test it for 10 minutes before you pay it ... all small cp shops in Philippines accept that (and there is plenty of them in every mall) ... and certainly, they are willing to give you some advices too, to help you ...

I won't buy a flagship phone on retailers other than OEM didicated retail stores, but you won't get the refund outright when you got a lemon. OEM can already exercise the warranty(limited warranty for Nokia) once you exit the store. You will go the painful 3R route..repair..replace..refund.
Thanks,

I wonder about that too. The 920 isn't advertised as much here and there are no local deals with the carriers.

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
No screen protector. I bought it at Nokia MOA. The service center has technical report and recommend it for replacement. I opt to just return the unit and refund my payment since I worry that this might be a quality issue that although not all units are affected, in time it might show up. The phone is almost useless because the screen always freezes.

I am happy with my Lumia 920 (display works perfectly, over 3 months now), but never know tomorrow, but it is the same with all brands ... I would take a replacement, but it is your choice ... ingat :)

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
Don't want to get a lemon this time, refund process is to long and pain in the ***. I am pre-ordering the Z10 with GLOBE, will be getting the L720 later. Goodluck guys!

This is weird. Lumia 800 was my first WPhone and it rocked! I used it for 8 months without the nagging problem you have described. I bought mine unlock in Nokia store glorietta. Now I'm a happy 620 owner.

Jomar, are you getting your 920 yet?! =/
And, in terms of popularity, how is the 920 perceived by people, and do they sell well?

No update about that yet. But it'll probably come along with the Southeast Asian release of the firmware

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
I bought Lumia 920 last April 5. Suddenly last Wednesday, April 17, it doesn't switch on! It was just sitting in my pocket the whole time. The last time I used it was running perfect. Then, I borrowed my friend's phone and tried calling my number (the sim inserted inside) and it seems the sim is active. But my phone doesn't ring, vibrate nor show any response to the call I made; nothing! I tried charging it, but still nothing.
I remember one time, it had some kind of problem. I think it was the 5th or 6th day after I bought it; it won't power on. But the three capacitive buttons are blinking. Then after few attempts, it did power up. I can't do anything about it then because I can't show it to Nokia SM Cebu City that I had that problem. Also, the replacement is only valid within 3 days after purchase.
Nokia is diagnosing my phone right now. I just wanted to share my experience with Lumia 920.

Re: LUMIA 920 Philippine users...
My Nokia Store experience :crying:
The lumia 925/928 became available in the U.S. Those models are not available in the philippines yet but I was so psyched up that I would have settled for a 920 ( not much difference with the 925/928 and I am partial to bright phones. ) I went to the nokia store in SM cebu to inquire which particular lumias enable the fm functionality after the gdr2 update and possibly buy one. And I got the worst customer service experience in my life. The rep all but ignored me in the empty nokia store. I actually liked being able to browse all the lumias without a rep looking over my shoulder but later it became apparent that it was not out of politeness but total indifference to a potential customer. After checking out the lumias, I was all set out on getting a 920 no matter the answer to the fm radio question and approached the cashier/rep. She acted put-upon that I approached her and looked at me while I was crossing the floor to her as if I was a chore she had to do and none too happy about it. I asked her about the various lumias particulary which ones had the fm after the june gdr2 update and she told me *Sir , lumias don't have radios* with a smirk on her face implying I was a simpleton. I informed her about the gdr2 update and she called to another rep inside the store who was a little more informed about the update but could not point out which lumias enable fm after the update and that I should just pick out whatever, already dismissing me to attend to something else ... in the empty nokia store. I turned to the previous rep who obviously did not want to answer any questions and she says *Come back again* even though I was obviously not yet done, then looks disbelieving at me when I did not move posthaste out of the store. I couldn't believe the utter disregard, the rudeness, the god awful *&!^# reps working on the store. I made a joking remark that it seems they wanted to get me out of the store upon which the rep just stares to indicate a silent *Yes*. I love nokia, the lumias are just about the best phones I've seen and handled but %$$@#! if I ever step into a nokia store again. No wonder the nokia store was deserted while the samsung, LG, and HTC booths were full of people perusing phones. I'm going to buy my lumia unit from sulit or online.

Whoa. Never have I seen something that bad in a Nokia Store. Here in Manila, the customer service from Nokia was awesome.
They even set up my 620 for me. Regarding the Nokia Stores, it's apparently set up in a franchise system. Also, the Nokia Stores with Nokia Care Centers have better customer service than Nokia kiosks.

He should. Nokia Stores here in the Philippines are practically done on a franchise system.
One thing is clear, though. If the Nokia Store (like many others) there is also a Nokia Care Center, that's not a place where I'd send my phone for repair.

It wasn't a kiosk, it was an honest to god Nokia Store in SM cebu's tech hub. I have not changed my mind about buying a nokia phone but I'll buy it somewhere else.

Too much work for so little return. I don't like to go thru the route where I'll lodge a complaint and the store owner would be put in the awkward situation to defend the rep, make up an excuse, and try to placate me at the same time. Too much drama for me. I'll just wait for the EOS and have my brother in the U.S. ship me one... after a decent time has elapsed and the prices go down to post-hype levels that is.

I do hope that you write a letter to the owner. There are probably many good people that would line up to take that job from that horrible employee.

Hi winning guy! It wasn't just an employee, but employees. If it was just one of them, i would have shrugged it off and watched that new Startrek movie. More than one and it's systemic, that's why I described it as a god awful *&^%. I'd rather not go anywhere near that store, talk to anyone from that store or contact the owner of that store. Sulit.com.ph has never let me down yet, I'll just do what I normally do.
