Question about infinite spinning gears issue

I have a 920 that I want to exchange. Did a factory reset before packaging it up to sent back and it's stuck on spinning gears. I'm not worried about getting it working again because I want to exchange it anyway. My question - Is my personal data likely to have been deleted? Am a little worried about sending it back if the data could still be on the device...

The data won't be on there because they will need to flash it to get it working

Managed to bring it back to life and can now confirm that all data is gone I used the info in this thread to fix it:

I have tried to reset the phone to factory but it just keeps spinning gears. It has done this for 3 hours now. I tried the down vol camera and power still no luck please hep!!!
