With the new lumia about to be announced I've always been a bit gutted at the thought of having the 'previous' flagship. I recently moved from android where each new phone is a huge spec war with different versions of android being offered. Since windows phone was designed to always give the same experience on any handset is the only real benefit to upgrading to get whatever new goodies they cram in ie: better camera etc?

Correct. Software wise you'll get the same experience with the cheap 521 on Tmobile as you would the 928 coming on Verizon.

Yeah true. I'll be keeping my 820 until there's a really compelling reason to look at new hardware.

LED notification lights being one example, once the software supports it.
