8x will not come to life after recent system update

A few weeks ago my alarms just stopped working. I tried to set new ones. Went through the paces but they never saved. I just got a notice that there was a new system update so I though..."hey, maybe something will get reset if I do this"

Bigger problem now. It went through the system update download, started the install, restarted, now I have the two gears turning on the screen. It has been doing this for 4 hours now.

Ideas?

get an exchange? My all new Lumia got the same issue and ATT replaced it with a new one
