Just in case you wondered where I went off to in the past couple of days, I was dragged off to a place with no internet access. Not that I wanted to be dragged off.

To my astonishment, I only found out that my brother took my 620's shell and hid it somewhere. So, for the past two days, my 620 was forced to live without a shell. So, here are some things I noticed.
1. Yes, you could still use the phone's buttons quite easily (Assuming you have long fingernails)
2. There is a notable drop in audio quality when you take the shell off. (In other words, it sounds waaaay tinnier.)
3. Everything on the back will stay in place while in use (even without a hand underneath). Provided that you don't drop your phone. Even then, there's still a chance that the battery will stay in place.

I still have to record evidence of the audio quality drop, so please wait warmly until the results are ready.
