One of my former work associates now owns a cell phone repair shop, I would suggest them to reach out to him.

Cell Phone Repair & Unlocking Specialist - Main

That is a huge bummer for the person who owns that phone. I am pretty sure to fix the screen would be about $100-$200, I believe you can get it repaired from Nokia directly for under $200 but they are very slow.

no phone is bullet proof, a lot of examples of shattered 920s with basic drops.

This is true. Wife's 920 cracked from a drop off the top of a Bob strolle. Must have landed just the wrong way. $125 later the Asurion replacement came...and while labeled a refurb it's like new.

Well of course it's not literally bulletproof, but it's been proven to be a very rugged device. Sure there are those who cracked the screen on one drop but there are a tone of videos where a drop doesn't hurt it.

With the 928's full glass front I can't see this handling any kind of fall gorilla glass or not.

My 928 fell out of my pocket getting out of the car tonight and hit the pavement. The screen looks worse than that one, it's toast.

So... has anyone replaced a screen yet? I have to say after watching all the torture tests on the 900 and 920 I'm a bit disappointed at how easy this one shattered. One of the big reasons I wanted a Nokia was the reputation for quality and durability.

Gorilla glass is strong but, not on corners. I have seen many cases where a simple drop from 2 feet shatters a screen. Every phone has it's weak point and the point of failure. The 920 is stronger than the 928 because it's thicker in the corners. With the thin corners, you would be better off kicking your phone if it drops from your hand. Direct drops on corners on ANY(touch screen modern smartphone) phone is very bad.

Dude, you're so right. Its the corners.. GG is strong when the load can be spread, think snowshoes, but on the corners. My 8x fell 2 ft onto hardwood at that just-right angle. CRAAAAAAAACK!!!! My replacement fell 4' onto asphalt, but flat. Not a scratch.. I agree, try some hackie sack moves if your piece finds itself tumbling down. You just may pull off a wicked cool save.

I agree that the corners on the 920 were a nice design feature, probably preventing many a broken screen. AT&T just wasn't an option for me... too bad they changed the design on the 928?

Yeah I'm afraid this phone's screen looks like it's prone to shattering if dropped. But it's too beautiful for me to want to put a case on it!

For anybody that does get the screen replaced, with or without insurance, could you please let us know how much it cost? Thanks!

FYI, if you buy the phone from Microsoft, you can buy their insurance plan for $99 for two years. It has a $50 deductible vs what I believe is $100 from Verizon's insurance.

I had an iPhone 4 that fell off a 5.5 ft high shelf and landed flat on its face on the Travertine floor. Didn't hurt it at all. Always catch with your foot if you can!
