So, some of you may be wondering, "Why is the 620's battery life so low?", and some of you speculated that Nokia was reusing batteries. Well, to a certain extent, that's true. Enter the BL-xJ family.

If you think they tried to reuse batteries from newer Symbian phones, you're wrong. The 5800 Xpressmusic uses a BL-5J (1320 mAh variety) battery. It was from 2008.
One of the lowest-end phones they used this on was the Nokia X1-01. They used this on various low-end feature phones, and Symbian smartphones. For a long time, the battery capacity was enough.
Take note that the only battery line to be of higher standard than the BL-xJ line was the BP-xL line.

Enter the BL-4J. If you're one of the (un)lucky people to buy a Nokia C6, you're in luck if you're also buying a 620. You now have a perfectly sized back-up battery.
It was actually rather obvious that the BL-4J was designed to be a slightly smaller alternative to the BL-5J, intended for cost-cutting.

Then, Nokia plunged headfirst into Windows Phone.

Let's just say the Nokia engineers expected nicer things to come out of the battery.
The rest of this is history.

that's a cool story, but will any of the bigger capacity nokia batteries fit the 620? I want a 620 cause it has all the things the 520 doesn't, but I don't want crappy battery life.

I recently bought a 520, and swapped batteries between that and my 620. I will say that the 1430mah battery does last significantly longer in my 620, than the 1300mah battery that came in that phone. Plus, the 1300mah battery is more than adequate for the 520. I know it probably seems odd, but the extra 130mah does make quite a bit of usage time difference for me in the 620. I am a fairly heavy user as well.

Well that doesn't make sense,520 has 4" screen compared with 3.8" of 620,so obviously 520 need bigger battery than 620

the battery on the lumia 620 is actually not so bad
the fact is that during the first few days of use it may seem low as u would be heavily using it ( downloading maps, apps, mix playlists and other stuff) but as the days passes the use will become lighter so the battery lasts longer i have a lumia 620 and with just a few calls a little music and some wifi use the battery can last more than few days

Better go for a Mugen battery for the 520, it has even more capacity and it's the same size as the original 520 one.

My battery lasts for two days on Amber

Well..looks like u have not compared the both phones either... Lumia 620 has ultrabright display as compared to 520 n 720.... if u feel m wrong just check it out...set color theme to Red or Cobalt(Bcz for our eyes RYBs r best colors to judge).. n set all 3 phones to high brightness mode...u'll see the difference on start screen urself...that's one of the reason why 620 consumes more battery.. that makes it my favorite....

---using Lumia 620 n L720 since June

Ya buddy i agree with you because even i compared with lumia 720 n 620. 620 have bright red which 720 red theme look dull.

1430 mAh BL-5J work perfectly on Lumia 620 and they provide about 10% longer battery life. I think Mugen bateries are kind of nonsense for the price they ask for them. $50 simply isn't worth it, I could buy 4x BL-5J batteries for that money.

My wife has a Mugen battery for her Galaxy MINI2 and the Phone has a longer cycle till the battery is empty
