Was very surprised when I checked and found that there was not a "never option" for locking the screen. C'mon MSFT it's my gd phone let me keep it from locking if I want !!!!

Do you not have the never option in the lockscreen settings?

Where are you getting that Verizon went and told Nokia and Microsoft that they didn't want a never option? That doesn't sound right to me.

The lockscreen timeout is carrier firmware dependent. http://forums.windowscentral.com/nokia-lumia-928/231774-can-i-disable-phones-timeout.html

VZW is the only carrier that has the 928, so it will be impossible to install any other carrier firmware.

If you turn off the Password in settings | lock screen the screen doesn't lock -- it will go to a timeout screen only. No password required to "unlock".

The 'password' option is turned ON, and then the option disabled!!!! How do you disable the password in this case? Really, VZW/MS???

Also, if your phone is connected to a corporate security policy, that will override what you specify on the phone as far as locking and passwords. You can change the interval, but not disable it.
