read mails are not visible in inbox

i managed to set up the pop mail on my lumia 920 and immediately started to get mail. the only problem is that after reading the mail and refreshing the inbox, the read mails disappear and i am left with only unread mails. is there any settings that i ned to change? any advise or help will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

That sounds like an email setting issue not a hardware issue on the phone. What email client are you using? and what carrier?

Its an outlook account but specific to my company. the pop settings were taken from the service provider. when you choose the download mail option, what do you select? i have chosen 'anytime'.
