Although I've never had a single problem with my 920, I think I'm going to upgrade the minute the 1020 releases in Sweden. Since getting the 920 I've become more interested in photography and the 1020 is THE device to have for this in a smartphone formfactor.

I might get one given it will release in september in the uk apparently so roughly 11 weeks since I get paid weekly, ?64 saved a week should be enough lol. But that depends if Nokia announce something in the winter or not.

I don't think anyone should abandon the 920 because the Lumia 1020 is the 1020 meaning an introduction to the Lumia 10xx series. Elop said that there will be a new phone in the fall during the Q&A at the live event so if you want a 920 successor then you should wait for the next 9xx phone. Besides by then specs will be upgraded.

Oh really? when in the Q & A did he say that?

I want the 1020, the camera is enough of an upgrade for me to relegate my 920 to a backup device, but Im having doubts purely due to the timing of the release. Im expecting late August for Vodafone UK (no news has been announced yet) and that is getting very near the traditional refresh time for MS and Nokia for the Autumn devices.
Im actually hoping for a 1025 model which has a 1080 screen and quad core, so I might wait for a couple of months and then get one, or I might just crack and get one before then :)

Im ditching, better pictures of my daughter is never enough

Yes, I need a better camera to take pics of my kid too (too lazy to take my DSLR at times). My 920 is good when the subject is close to the camera, but if they're far away, faces almost always looks blurry. Looking at the samples of the 1020 seems to suggest this is no longer an issue.

Yep, I love my 920 but it is no match for the 1020 which is in a league of its own. That camera will be the best thing since sliced bread. Please don't take too long to come out unlocked.

Hubby dropped and smashed the 820 I had bought for him before he could get a case. I'll be dressing my 920 up in a nice OtterBox for him once my 1020 arrives. :)

I'm on the fence. I have no real reason to switch from my 920 but I am impressed by the camera and extra memory. The only thing holding me back is the thought of what could come out this fall.

Oh my gosh! me too! I am not a camera person. I don't have one, and I don't really take pictures. But I will be going on holiday with my brother in August, and I really want to capture our adventure together. I am either gona have to buy a compact camera, or upgrade my 920 to the 1020.

any advice, peoples?

Four months ago, I got my 920 off the shelf, for about US$530, SIM-free. No way can I upgrade to a 1020 unless my printer miraculously decided it can print money!!
Just have to grit my teeth and wait it out till the next Lumia. I'll just keep repeating to myself, once Amber and GDR2 is out over here, my 920 will feel like a new phone, and it'll be as good as the 1020.. ...except for the damn camera... . that DAMN camera !!!!!

as for me i will wait and get the one after 1020, maybe it will have more storage (+64Gb) i don't mind the weight.
I think Nokia must make versions with more storage for those willing to pay for it (extra) so that one can choose depending on your pocket,
how much does it cost them to make a version with extra storage space?

Nope. Here in India, no option for contracts etc... We have to pay outright the entire amount.
Bought my phone in March, and definitely not looking to pay another $700 (Rs. 38000) for a better camera.

Keep in mind us 920 users will get the same camera software when the update shows up. I would wait to see how much the new software makes taking pictures better. You might find out that our 8mp pix aren't that much worse then the 5 that comes out of the 1020.

it's not about resolution but sensor size, even 2 MP pictures from 1020 will look a lot better than 8 MP from 920

besides the specific 41 to 5 stuff we are getting the program that took those pictures. Also the fact that we have ois already might mean that pictures might not be terribly less quality. Specially when uploading images to facebook or other similar sites.
