The thread is for those that have listened to music on both the 8X and the 928 with earphones/buds. (I have Etymotic er6i buds but have also used Beats headphones.)

The music on 8X sounds awesome. In fact, the first time I listened to music on my 928, I was pretty surprised at the difference and switched back to my 8X mainly because of music (and a couple of other reasons). While on a trip, I wanted good pictures so I tried the 928 again and then the other day, listened again to music on the 928 and it sounded like crap compared to the 8X; someone distorted, lower volume, lack of bass. So, is it just me that thinks there is a huge difference in music between the 8X and the 928 or do others think so too? (BTW, this music is mostly Xbox streaming, but some straight from the phone).

I've heard similar opinions but I'm skeptical. I have to wait for my m50s to come in before I come to a conclusion.

have you checked the settings in audio and/or used the EQ? none of the advanced features are turned on by default.

Oh yeah. I tried a lot of the different eq settings. Didn't do a custom one.

I don't know how the 928 compares to the 822, but my 8X sounds much better through my ear buds the the 822 did. HTC did a good job with the headphone amp and beats audio.

Ha! I listen to my 928 at work on M50s. It sounds amazing.
gapost, not sure if you are having issues because of the streaming. I have had weird off and on problems when streaming via bluetooth (I know thats not same as over xbox), but there has been distortion in the high end that comes and goes. But when listening to local files it sounds crystal clear, nice separation, and great bass. Even Pandora sounds decent. You may want to try listening to a different 928 in one of the stores and rule out a hardware issue. Good luck.

I have used several high-end earbuds and headphones with both phones and found that the 8X does have a better overall sound than the 928. The 928 isn't bad, just not a good as the 8x.

I've had both and the 8x wins on sound. On the 928, make sure the Dolby equalizer isn't on, it seems to make it much worse IMO

    I've had both phones...
The biggest thing that has annoyed me about music on the 8x is that Beats doesn't even come into effect through the speaker or Bluetooth.
Personally, I very rarely use the headphone out.
I do Bluetooth, in my car, and speaker, most everywhere else.
So, I gain no benefit from Beats or the Dolby EQ.
