Can't connect my nokia lumia 720 to my computer

I have had the phone for two weeks and this is the first time I've tried to sync it with my computer
I installed Windows Phone app for desktop and when I connected the phone to the computer it started charging and appeared in the computer folder and in devices in control panel but the windows pone app just showed a message "Windows Phone is locked unlock your phone to see what's on it"
And when I unlock it nothing happens, I restarted the phone and uninstalled the app and did it all over again and it still doesn't work...
I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer btw...
