Anybody got any opinions on Nokia's naming convention?

I like the idea to assign the first digit to its market segment
5,6,7,8,9,10, 25(?)

But do you feel that its starting to get out of hand when more and more devices are released?

900 first of the family
920, 925, 928 Variants
929 Epic upgrade, but still in the same family. Wouldnt 930 be more appropriate? I assume GDR 3???

I gotta say, as more units are released, these numbers start to get more complicated for the uninitiated.

I feel if you want to capture the crowd you need a catchy name.
I liked Sea Ray, EOS, (though can be confusing with Canon ;-P) and so on...

Anyways I just wanted to get some opinions on this matter.

In a perfect world, the Lumia 929 would be referred to as the Lumia 938 and the Lumia 1520 would be referred to as the Lumia 935. *sigh*

It's beginning to look like a disorganized mess from my perspective, and that hasn't happened to me with Nokia's numbering before.

Well they did go the 4 digit route early on 33** and so forth, and then during the smartphone symbian stages went with the n designations. I think that helped.
Now its just a lot of numbers.

Agree. Their product line and all the variations is kinda getting out of control, let alone keeping track of the numbers attached.

Hundreds is type
Tens is os
Units is variant.

So a 930 wouldn't work, as its not wp8.1 yet.

Cmon guys, its really not that confusing is it?

1020
900, 920, 925, 928.
800, 820
720
620, 625
520, 525

I'm not sure whats tripping you up.
