Ok, so I took the leap of faith and went for the 1020 Black! Loving the WP8 experience so far, now i know what I was missing when I was on 7.5/7.8. I would like to thank you for the info. I went with the purchase now because of the following reasons:-
1.) Not a power user, so for me s400+ and s800 would have been the same.
2.)Even if i had waited, the flagships in 8.1 would have been delayed in getting launched in India. And even by the time they would have launched, something else would get announced. So it would've become a vicious circle!
3.) I was getting a good exchange deal on my L800, which I would not have gotten if it would've become 6 months older than it is right now.
4.) I would be upgraded to 8.1, none the less
5.) I love the camera on this phone!

So all in all that's why I made the jump :)

I'd wait, the next wave of phones in Q1 will be the true next gen phones for WP. I have my upgrade in April and that's around when they have been releasing the big wave of upgrades (last year was the Lumia 900, and then that summer the Lumia 920).

I'd expect phones like the 1520 but in 5 inch factor with more features on many carriers (Verizon already getting 929).

For now I got a nexus 5 to mess around with with my 920 to make the wait better.

I didn't wait....
Even with the 1520 set to come out when it did, and knowing I have a better shot at the 1320 up here in Canada, I got a 1020.
However I buy my phones outright. I don't lock into any contracts.

I am overjoyed with the 1020, and come time to look at a 1320 with updates still to come like GDR3, Black, and 8.1....I may just stick with the 1020 in the long run.

I do not see the downside to your decision, and I am happy you jumped. As I am still on WP7 as well (L900), I am getting more and more excited for a WP8. Posts like yours make me giggle when I hear how much more you enjoy it. My daughter is seriously looking at the L1020, and she loves photos, so again I feel good about your experience as I know nothing about camera tech or optimizing photos. Nice to hear most users are very happy with the L1020.

Please keep posting, and hope you upload some great photos
