Messaging not working properly

For some reason recently the messages I receive from Facebook don't come to my phone automatically. If my phone is on standby, the messages don't come through, it's only when I pick up the phone and use it do the messages come through. All at once. This is highly irritating as I then have to sit through like 20 sounds / vibrations for each message notification.

Anyone know a way of fixing this problem without simply taking off the notifications? I want to be notified when I actually receive the message, not when I decide to use my phone
