OK so I flashed the phone with 059S916 RM-892 VAR GB CV BLACK but I still get prompted to enter a SIM unlock code, anyone have any ideas?

The carrier shows as CV GBIE in the about page in settings.

Flashing it with a simfree firmware will not unlock the phone it will just unbrand it.

I have the same problem, bought myself a week old black Vodafone locked 32gb 925 off ebay to replace my unlocked grey 16gb 925 and as I'm not the original owner, cannot apparently unlock through Vodafone.

Now have a phone I can't use on my T-Mobile contract :-(

Really interested to hear people's ideas too

My 32gb is unlocked and I'm thinking of selling it and keeping my 16gb for weekends and getting a 1520 for the week.

Network locks are related with your IMEI number. No matter what ROM or firmware you flash, you won't change your IMEI number. As long as device IMEI is carrier locked it will always ask you for the SIM unlock code.

Just ask any of your friends or relatives to call Vodafone and get the code for you, it's free if they have had the contract for more than a year.
You can always buy a payg sim and ask for the unlock code, it will cost you ?20 though.
