coming from iphone to 1020...

i was an early windows phone adopter, but i decided to switch about a year and a half ago, soley to let the platform mature a bit. so needless to say it's been a while. so my questions are; "what are some must have apps for this phone? " , "are there any tips and/or tricks i should know about?"

really excited to get this thing up and running, camera looks sick!

There is a lot of apps that you should install. Just to name a few:
- SysApp Pusher (to have all the Nokia apps and Microsoft app). You click in that app and it will find if there is some updates for the apps.

Yeah the camera is unbelievable at least twice as good as my Sony z1 i had.
if you like music,extreme music,is a good player and i use music import for my downloads.

forgot about weave! that was a great app! that reminds me of beatboxx, it is a free dance/electronica music streaming app! anyone who likes that kind of music, beatboxx was one of my favs!

I have a 1020 and I was once an app '*****', lol. Not so much these days. There are a lot of great forums available here on WPCentral that can answer your questions about tips and tricks and apps.

The real story for the 1020 is the camera! It's a beast and I love it. I could never drop to quality less than this now...I'm spoiled for life.

The Nokia camera app and the Nokia camera beta app (which is obviously a beta but imo better as it's faster but I think the quality of the pics is slightly underperforming compared to the non beta version).

One shot is good. Heats the phone up with long usage though but the quality of the pics is good.

Fantasia Painter Free is an epic photo editor.

6tag is better than the official instagram app imo.

Metrotube or mytube for a decent youtube experience.

Facebook beta for a better than the current Facebook app.

Audiocloud for a better than the official sound cloud app found on iOS or android (no official one in wp yet).

Bing weather is pretty good but weather apps are plentiful.

Bing news is also pretty good and I also like weave newsreader and paperboy.

Plus...the Facebook messenger app just came and it's pretty slick.

Wp8.1 is around the corner too...perfect time to be on WP imo

yahoo weather - bing weather- looks like there are a ton of good weather apps
xboxone smartglass - i do have an xbox one ( loving titanfall right now, just beat ryse which was an AMAZING game, highly underrated)
dropbox - will be replaced by OneDrive, love the autoupload feature... plus outlook.com is my main email anyway.
google play music - already replaced by xbox music( love the music videos on xbox one)
flipboard - replaced by weave and bing news
shazam - replaced by bing audio
siri - cortana!
youtube - metrotube
instagram - 6tag
snapseed - fantasia painter
pandora - nokia music
apple maps - bing maps

i dont think i'll be missing anything? whats all the fuss with lack of apps???

Another app you might want to try from news/RSS is Magnify Beta. It won't be perfect, since it is still a beta app, but it has a design very similar to Flipboard. I do like it, and the developer is continuing to work on it.

I also like Nextgen Reader for RSS feeds.

It has been awhile Laura! I feel like the old guy lurking around the forums (only 32 btw) since I have been active here for so long, weird seeing all these new people! Also good to see so many people adopting the platform! My 1020 arrives in the mail today, it's a pretty white one, practically mint with all accessories and a case I was able to score for $330, it was a very good deal! I will definately be checking those apps out !

ebay: quick access to ebay buying & selling.

Paypal:Send & Request Money.

Handy safe: Been using this since nokia 6600 & id be lost without this secure infos storage app.

Your own banks app: (if available) mines natwest and is very convient.

Countdown Deluxe: lets you
set lots countdown's date and time for quick reference.

Clinometer: very nice spirit level/angle meter.

Compass VO: im a hiker this is a really nice compass.

All the apps above are great. I might be stating these apps for a 2nd time.

3. 6tag, is is better than Instagram's app
4. Myfitness pal
5. Bing news- I am currently using an android but Bing News is the best news app! It lacks the ability to share thou.

I also pin my fb groups to my home page and also a few banking apps.
