Hi

I got my Nokia Lumia 1520 from Amazon in the UK.

It's brilliant, but the phone has an APAC Hong Kong firmware in it.

Is it worth changing to a european or UK firmware? Will it give me anything different to what I have now?

The only thing I notice, is when I press and hold the [.com] button on emails, internet explorer etc, that I don't have .co.uk, etc.

Are there any other benefits?

Also, I can't seem to find a definitive way of updating / changing your ROM. I'm new to Windows Phone, but prior to this had Android and was perfectly happy flashing and changing to different ROMS.

Sorry for all the questions.

Alan

I'm posting from my phone, so I don't have a link handy, but there are instructions in this forum on flashing firmware.

I use the HK version of the 1520 as well. You can go into settings and change your region to the UK. That should give you the .co.uk in IE, etc. I have mine set to the US and it works fine for me.

The only thing you would really get by flashing firmware is a change in when updates are delivered. Updates from the servers are based on your firmware version.

Ah, thank you.

On my [.com] button, I only have .com, .edu, and .org.

It's no biggie if it doesn't have any other benefits.

I'll look out for the flashing firmware info anyway, just out of interest.

Go into Settings -> Language & Region, and set everything to English United Kingdom/Unoted Kingdom. See if that helps.

I did the same as save about ?100 off a UK model. You can tweak all the settings to UK and remove things like Chinese keyboard. Then I think only difference might be when you receive updates?

I also am using the RM937 from Hong Kong in the UK, and have the same result, no .co.uk on the key. This is the only issue I have found, and so far I decided not to reflash to eu firmware, but please post the result here if you decide to!

Just to let you know I upgraded to EU GB CV last night.

All went well, and very fast firmware install!

I did have to, as per the instructions, use sysapp pusher to grab some of the system bits (Glance, touch, network+, audio, display and Nokia Account).

My Manufacturer Name now shows as RM-937_eu_euro1_231 and the firmware revision number shows as 1028.3562.1402.0001 - is this the most recent for the UK? Previously on the HK firmware it ended 0004.

Thanks

Alan

Thanks guys, that gave me the confidence to flash mine, all went well so now on the right GB variant and all working fine.

Even the backup restore seems better than it used to be!

Hi, I also have the HK RM-937 1520. I was wondering if when you flashed to the GB Rom, did you find it better than the HK rom? To me ROM's are just a bunch of numbers and letters and I have no idea what advantages flashing to the GB rom would give me over the HK version.

I live in Canada and I can't seem to get the Black update, so I was wondering if you had success upgrading firmware after flashing your rom.

it is important to note that the hongkong and international version varies a lot from US version 1520.3. the build quality is different and they use totally different screen panel! I owned both and I can tell the difference. the hongkong version have a strong yellow tint.

if u dont have the US version then compare it with S4/S5/iphone (any)

open a perfect white screen with full brightness on and compare the white among devices and report back.

Huh, my RM-937 doesn't have a yellow tint, the screen has been nothing but flawless.
I am sure the build quality is not different, its possible they have different revisions of hardware. And you cant compare to S5 or S4 since it has an OLED display. OLEDs really nice in colors but it is a major gas guzzler when on, the reason i got rid of my Lumia ICON, active time was like 5 hours. with the 1520 I can get more than double that.

I also have a Lumia 1520, RM-937 HK and within the last 24 hours while tethering my internet connection I'm no longer able to make secure connections ie; https using the device that I'm tethering my connection to. Does anyone have any idea as to what may have caused this? If it helps I also have 8.1 installed via the development program. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey guys, according to Nokia's web site the following should be the latest firmware versions:

Lumia 1520 Country variant 02061.00066.14253.40001
Lumia 1520 O2 1028.3562.1402.0001
Lumia 1520 Vodafone 1028.3562.1402.0002

I'm also showing the firmware version 1028.3562.1402.0001. Any idea why we aren't getting the firmware version that is associated with the country variant?

How come the build quality is different? All Nokia phones are made in CHINA.
