how hard are you suppose to have to press?
i just got my icon today. to take pics or open the camera app (from the screen being off) i have to hold the camera button for a few seconds
when i lightly click on/push on the button theres a click that doesnt do anything, i have to push it in more and hold for a few seconds

it's a 2-stage button like a traditional camera (remember cameras like the DSLR?). the first stage (the first click) is to focus. the second stage (pressing it deeper) is the one that takes the picture.

you don't need to hold the button down. you press to the first stage to focus, then press to the second stage to take it and let go. no holding down (except maybe at the focus stage to make sure it's sharp).
