930 on AT&T (What LTE band to look for)

I went to the product page for the 930 and it looks like it supports bands

LTE network bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20

I then went to the 1520 product page and it listed the exact same LTE bands

So if I am understanding this correctly...the global version of the 930 should be able to run on AT&T network w/LTE support?

I also went to the wikipedia page for LTE bands and it looks like AT&T supports those bands

Thanks for responding!

If the devices supports LTE bands what is that will stop a global 930 from running on at&t LTE bands?

To get LTE on ATT it would need band 4 and band 17
To get WCDMA (3G) on ATT it would need band 2 and band 5

To get LTE on T-Mobile it would need band 4 and band 17
To get WCDMA (3G) on T-Mobile it would need band 4 and band 2 (band 2 is only for the newly re-farmed areas)

They specifically said the icon is the "us variant" which would lead me to believe it's a timed exclusive on Verizon and they'll release it on other carriers perhaps sometime in the summer.

What About LTE band 7, that seems to be common in both the att version of the 1520 and the 930, since its only one band might it be slower?

* My plan with AT&T allows me to bring my own device and only get charged $15/month. ( I am on the 10GB w/5 phones Mobile Share plan) So everyone in our plan have to buy their phones outright.
My plan is to purchase the 930 at full price (versus paying at&t an extra $25x24month contract + $200 initial down payment + $35 activation fee == $835)

I am still confused about the LTE band 'thingy' I have a Nokia 920 and on Nokia's website it says the 900 supports LTE network bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20

I don't see band #4 listed for the 900, 1020 or 1520. I am new with this buying a phone so I want to make sure that it has full compatibility with AT&T network EVEN if at&t doesn't sell or subsidize the phone.

Is nokia's website specs just listed incorrectly ( I sure make a lot of cut/copy/paste errors!)

Nokia's website is correct. Since you have been browsing the specs for the Lumia 930, i can tell you that the specs for the Lumia 930 are on the global Nokia website. On US Nokia website there is no mention of Lumia 930. So you must have been looking at the specs for the European Lumias. Go to Nokia's US website instead and you will see the difference in LTE and WCDMA bands between European Lumias and US Lumias. For example, right now i have open US Nokia website for Lumia 920, i'm at detailed specification and see this for LTE and WCDMA:

LTE network bands: 2, 4, 5, 17 --> this tells me that L920 would get full LTE on ATT and T-Mobile
WCDMA network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz --> full 3G on ATT and no 3G on T-Mobile (3G only in re-farmed areas with band 2)
850 MHz = band 5
900 MHz = band 8
1900 MHz = band 2
2100 MHz = band 1

I thank you!

I googled/binged nokia 1020 and I must have gotten the european link. There are differences in LTE that are supported

International

-vs-

US

Looks like I am still a servant of at&t even with bringing/buying my own device....sigh

So are there actually ANY Lumia models that have full ATT compatibility but that are not sold by ATT directly? Or is ATT so unique that none of the international models will ever support the unusual bands?

Yes the ones that are carried by Canadian (Rogers and Telus) carriers are. Canadian variants also include the 1700mhz band

If the end up carrying the 930 that is.

Coming late to this thread, but you all have it sorted out.

This whole Icon/L930 thing has just got me bummed out. I know AT&T has rocked the exclusives for a long time. So maybe this is Mobile-Karma. Verizon users have 2 5" screen devices with Hi Def screens and quad core goodness. AT&T has one- and it is a monster phone that is just too large for my tastes. I use the phone a ton, and my wife's 5" Galaxy Note is 5" and about as large as I want to go. I could live with4.5"-4.7", but I want the hi def screen and the stronger quad core just to ensure the best performance after the WP 8.1 update. None of the other AT&T devices not named the L1520 have that.

Sigh. I will give it some time to let the dust settle, and see if any rumors abound. Had AT&T even gotten the ATIV SE, that would have been my choice. As it is, I am about done with my L900, and I will jump on the L1520 and buy a blue tooth.

Oh, L930.... what could have been.....
