Has any one tried WP8.1 update on a Nokia Lumia 520 ? how is the device coping up ?

Finally.!Installed the latest #lumia_cyan update.!!

Pros:

1. Action Center added.
2. More tiles can be added to the start screen.
3. Custom background can be set to the start screen. (This is one GOOD thing, windows has taken care of.!).
4. Custom alert tones for WhatsApp, Facebook, Hotmail, Google and Phone can be set.
5. Calendar has been updated.
6. Project my screen feature added.
7. An updated camera.
8. Many other small enhancements.
9. WhatsApp doesn't crash anymore when you scroll the previous messages.!!!! yayy.!!!

Cons:

1. The biggest disappointment I experienced was that, CORTANA has not been made available in the Lumia 520.!! Well yeah, this sucks. The same previous speech feature opens up when you long-press the search button.
2. Games are shown in the application list, as well as the in the Games section again. The list seems endless if you happen to have a lot of games.

Well, This was my experience in the first 30 minutes of using the phone, after the update.

Did you try switching over to US as region? Probably that should activate cortana. That apart, does the phone lag? Am thinking of updating mine too :)

I have the 8.1 on my l520. and it works fine. No lags or anything. But i have the same problem with cortana... She is not here. Switched to US region. Still no cortana. Though store does not work. Might cortana be missing because of the store?

Everything is 10x better than WP8, and yes Cortana does work, I was using her earlier on my L520, but you need ot set everything to USA language, region, speech - it's not available in other regions yet

L520 feels like a different phone, extra row of tiles makes it look sweet, custom background wallpapers create an amazing look, screen switching is faster with a much better animation, apps load quicker, the whole OS is a massive improvement over WP8

I was getting bored of my L520 until this update, now it's exciting again, definitely recommend it

yeap! Made cortana work. And i like the new music player. Per total, wp 8.1 rocks! tough i observed that the equalizer under audio in settings still does not work on l520. Still the same flickering like in wp8.

How'd you get Cortana working? I have 8.1 on a 520, EN US, and there is no Cortana. (I don't have a SIM card in the 520, maybe that's why?)

My 520 has been laggy ever since the upgrade. Most of the time it crashes when I use IE. It's pretty awful. But cortana makes up for it.

My 521 is slower. I did two hard resets and a few soft resets.

By slower, I mean sometimes I'll hit a tile or button (physical or virtual) and the response is not immediate. Sometimes scrolling down for the action center or typing is a little delayed.

Really sucks, reminds me of Android.

I have the very same problem. From what I've heard 8.1 isn't optimized for all phones yet.

On my L520 8.1 works great. Phone seems to be faster and i don't have any problems so far.

Yes I have also installed in my Lumia 520 in India and Cortana working I am agree with you.

Cortana was missing from my 520. Adding a SIM card to the phone and setting date+time to automatic fixed my issues.

I am also L520 user from India and for me cotrona working fine.

She replied to me some Q's and doing great for playing music, calls, navigations and apps opening :)

When I first updated to 8.1, phone responded slowly and laggy. After 2 hours of updating its working with same or more speed and no issues :)

change region to us. on languange make sure english united states and on keyboard delete and redownload the languange..english united states on top.than cortana is there

Download the app, "Preview for Developers " and follow the hints when you open the app. Before you do it please do some research first to help yourself find as much information as you can.

I have problem only with equalizer..they are not there. I mean they instantly dissapear after i enter audio settings. Everything else is fine. L520 Blue
