Glance and Double Tap To Wake Doesn't Work At All

Problem. Just got a 1020 off ebay, went through the updates everything is going fine. I don't have a SIM yet, as I'm still setting up my phone. My issue is, Glance and Double tap to wake do not work at all.

I've tried uninstalling them and doing SysAppPusher to reinstall but still no dice. It just doesn't work - glance doesn't show up and double tap to wake never works. This is despite me being in their settings and having them enabled.

I'm running Lumia Black with 8.1

im not running 8.1 myself but i believe some 8.1 glance issues upside down etc were temporarily resolved by installing "Nokia Glance Background App" Glance Background | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United Kingdom)

Already had that app installed. Tried uninstalling, still no dice.

Is your proximity sensor in working order?
Maybe try a call and see if the screen turns on and off when you cover the top part of the phone (i.e holding it up to your head)

both those features rely on the proximity sensor. (double tap needs it so it knows when its out of a pocket and to be enabled, same for glance)

The upside down glance screen is associated with two apps installed.
