Hello folks,

I am walking around this forum for some days, and today I read respond to my "introduction" topic about L1020. Here is what I came with:

L930
Nokia Rich Recording (Dolby 5.1 Yaaay !!)
Big screen (5" should be enough for me)
Smooth design (well, I like phones in "one shape", N9 to be example, I have it now)
Built-in wireless charging
2420 mAh battery
No Glance screen, no Double tap (really ??), only 32GB internal storage

L1020
41 MPx photo sensor for incredible images
4,5" screen
64 GB available as I am in O2, but this depends how fast I will decide
Camera Grip for extended battery (2000 mAh) life + better handling
Glance Screen, Double Tap
Ugly shape (really, that hill on backside due to photo stuff is making me nervous), unconfirmed (I read somewhere) big delay between shots, so no moment-shots

That were just short lists of what came in my mind. No let's break it down:

- I have never used Glance Screen, I have a watch if I want to know actual time, and I am not checking phone 20x per day so I don't need fast overview;
- 32GB or 64GB, for me doesn't matter, usually I am sorting shots directly in phone, deleting what is not useful anymore etc.;
- battery life is important for me, though I am planning to buy some useful powerbank;
- Double Tap will be missing feature;
- L930 has nice shapes, while L1020 has that ugly hill on backside, so I am worrying about comfort in my pocket;
- Wireless charging is discussable, built-in will be better than by some cover;
etc. etc. etc.

So now I am in complicated position - I am not guy who is changing phones every 2 years (yes, N9 has 2 years, but MeeGo is really becoming obsolete). Looks like WP8.1 is the way I want to go (another thread will grow in different section, some things I need clarified before I will make any movement).

Please, be so kind, and let me know your opinions. I need them very much, it is not every day that I spend around 450?-500? for phone, so I want to try to make as wise as possible move.
Any kind of help is highly appreciated.

Bobi.

If you want the best camera on any smartphone go for lumia 1020. Or if you want the latest flagship phone , latest sOc (SD800 with 2GB ram ) full hd display then go for lumia 930. Oh lumia 930 does not support Nokia glance but 1020 does. Lumia 1020 will be getting future updates from Microsoft which also includes windows phone 8.1 update with Nokia cyan firmware (preinstalled on lumia 930).

The 1020 wins, for me. The 930 seems like a step forward in some areas and a step back in others. I'd be willing to wait for the next flagship and enjoy DAT CAMERA on the 1020 in the mean time.

I've never felt the 1020's bulge while it's in my pocket. It's not that big.

The battery life on the 1020 isn't too good, if you're a moderate to heavy user. A heavy user could pretty much go through 2 full charges in a day.

As a 1020 owner (now 1520 owner), if you don't need the absolute best camera phone, I'd opt for the 930. I can tell the 20MP camera in the 1520 isn't as good as the 1020, but its still really good. The overall experience between the 1020's dual core vs the Snapdragon 800 quad core isn't really too much of a difference.

The hardware is significantly more powerful in the 930 than the 1020. (2.2ghz snapdragon 800 vs 1.5ghz snapdragon S4)
CPU is much more powerful and the GPU is significantly more powerful. Most likely you'll notice this in heavy 3D gaming and maybe speeds of launched apps and such. The windows UI experience itself doesn't change much between hardware as its very well optimized on low end hardware keeping it smooth throughout.

If you've never used glance before, its not going to be a deal breaker. Once you've gotten used to it it could be.

The 930 does have double tap to wake. It was shown in a hands on preview video when it was announced.

Battery life, well if you get a portable battery/powerbank that becomes a moot point.

Built in wireless is an advantage over the 'case' (more like an external backplate...)

The 1020's only real advantage is the 41mpx camera which is still the best in the business outside the 808 pureview. But if you want something that's a bit more future proof the 930 and the camera performance isn't that big of a deal (the 930's shooter is still a good one) i'd say the 930 is the better bet.

If you have a 920/925/928 theres really no point in getting a 1020 unless you absolutely have to have that camera, since internally they're all the same.

1020's only advantage for me is the 41 megapixel.. But If I were you, choosing 930 over 1020 is the smartest decision. Better battery, CPU, GPU, and future proof.

I sold my 920 to buy a 1020, but never liked it. Didn't like the camera bulge, and I was most disappointed with the photos after the hype. Unless you're prepared to adjust settings and use manual mode, or need to blow them up quite big, the pics didn't look any better than the 920 - and I've been into photography for decades. I have pre-ordered the 930. I since sold the 1020 and bought another 920, lol.

I would wait for the 930, I was trying to decide between the 1520, 1020, and the 930. In the end it went down to the better specs of the 930, and the 5" screen. 41MP wont make much different really unless you want to crop you photos.

930 Gets my vote... next you gotta decide what colour!! Black, White, Green or Orange!

I'd also get the 930. As the others said, the only drawbacks are no glance (but double tap to wake!) and eventually the camera. But I wouldn't always say it's worse, especially the processing should be a to faster since the Snapdragon 800 is a beast, and Megapixels aren't everything. For a good picture, it's always the one behind the camera who's important. If I were you, I'd just look into the 1020 and Icon subforms and look at the photo threads, in my opinion the 930 is not that much worse.

but I won't highjack the htread lol sorry.

I think this is a no brainer. 930 all the way. The huge jump in specs makes up for the slightly less good camera on the 930. Overall and considering that a phone is much more than a camera, the 930 is a lot better.

Of course, there is one other deciding factor: you can actually buy a 1020 if you want to..
Sorry, just another frustrated potential 930 buyer with no release date on the horizon.
But back on topic, as Poiman said, a phone is not just a camera but also even though the 930 camera is probably great, Im sure a lot of people just point and shoot but its worth bearing in mind that things can be improved greatly by taking it out of it's auto modes. I say this as I've even managed some pretty good results even on an HTC one camera after delving around in the manual settings.

Assuming you're ok with the larger size, I would pick the 930 over the 1020, because it's a lot more up to date and should last you longer. As you say, it's a lot of money!

i think you should go for the 930, when i got mine 1020 i tought that the camera bulge would be awfull but i actually started to love it, it just has a different feel than all the other phones, it also helps you to hold the Phone so you dont drop it quickly. But if the camera isn't the most used feature you'd be better off with the 930, as many have said it's more future proof

I was leaning towards the Lumia 930 until you stated that the 1020 has 64GB storage in your carrier.

While the differences in specs are pretty much considerable, a phone running WP certainly doesn't need that bump of specs. It's still very fluid and I can attest to that with my Lumia 920. The spec bump on the 930 is negligible unless you want the latest and the greatest. If you game a lot, get the 930. If you want a phone with a top of the line camera and enormous space, get the 1020.

If the 930 had a card slot, 930 will be the easy pick here. The 1020 gets my vote.

PS. I personally like the bump on the 1020. I think it's gorgeous LOL but that's just me :cool: You'd be getting a great device either way just know your priorities.

Unless you absolutely want that camera, there's no reason to pick a 1020. I would advise anyone to pick up a 1520 or a 930 as a second choice.
