Lumia 1020 lag time on opening apps

I'm on WP8.1 and haven't had an update for a few weeks however the week before last all of a sudden my phone started to run really slowly. Evening opening the camera app can take 10-20 secs sometimes before it starts and its highly annoying.

I've tried restarting, soft reset (which helps for a little), emptying temp files and not sure what to do. I have about 3.5gb of memory left on the phone, close all apps properly and don't have a more than around 20 3rd party apps installed so the apps themselves shouldn't be the issue.

Can anyone advise on how to solve this?

Hmm, did anything change?
Perhaps an app running wild? Does the Battery Saver app turn up anything?

I don't know what to tell you, that's weird.
A hard reset is a drastic option, but still on the table.

Nope, nothing changed that I'm aware of and battery saver doesn't show anything out of the norm. I've also tried deleting apps that I just don't need but to no avail.

A hard reset seems to be the only other thing I can think of but like you said I do feel its a drastic option..
