It's disappointing that we have to endure forum members who can't engage in a discussion about something in which we all share a common interest without resorting to using attitude and sarcasm. I've seen others pull you up on the belittling nature of your posts in the past and it's not on. I for one won't be wasting my time replying to any more of them.

Its disappointing to have to endure poor logic time after time.
Sam, it was by a fair comment by the Lard. Why do you constantly resort to ad hominem? If you logic is sound your augment can be persuasive without needing to attack others. It doesn't add to the discussion.

I don't think MS expects users to follow a 820>830, 920>930 upgrade route. I have a 720, and the 830 looks quite attractive to me. IMO MS expects users to take a number jump upgrade route ie. Feature phone >530, 520>630, 620>730...etc. From this POV, the 830 is an exciting upgrade, and I'll be getting it as soon as my 720 dies [hopefully soon :)].

I think the 920 is still very much useable, at least till a (1030?) is released, and if I have one, I personally would wait it out.

Paying a premium to be the amongst the first to own an "affordable flagship"????

    That's good logic????

From what I can tell, only the RM-985 supports T-Mobile LTE bands and has Qi wireless charging. The RM-983 will support AT&T and T-Mobile LTE (if unlocked) but uses PowerMat wireless charging. The RM-984 is the international variant currently available on many websites, but does not support LTE bands in the United States. In fact, as far as I'm aware the RM-984 hasn't even been through the FCC.

Aside from opened (without original packaging but apparently "new") prototypes with broken Glance on Ebay, the RM-985 does not appear to be on sale anywhere, unfortunately.

Where did you see the reference to Powermat for the RM-983?

I see all three models on FCC website... including the RM-984...
see info i extracted from the FCC website

    RM-983 Bands

    LTE700 (Band 17)
    LTE850 (Band 5)
    LTE1700/2100 (Band 4)
    LTE1900 (Band 2)
    LTE2500 (Band 7)

    RM-984 Bands

    LTE2500 (Band 7)

    RM-985 Bands:

    LTE700 (Band 17)
    LTE850 (Band 5)
    LTE1700/2100 (Band 4)
    LTE1900 (Band 2)
    LTE2500 (Band 7)

    EDIT:
ok - i take it back - for the RM-983 FCC testing does indeed show Duracell Powermat :)
where as the RM-984, FCC testing shows using the RT-900 which we know is Qi
and for RM-985, FCC testing shows the DT-900 being used again

Yeah, RM-984 and RM-985 will come with Qi, thankfully.

As for LTE in the U.S. on the RM-984 wouldn't that require band 4, which the RM-984 doesn't have?

i cant seem to get links from FCC website to work...

    https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repor...ericSearch.cfm

but do a search based on dates, rather than on model number
microsoft as the applicant name and final action date range as 09/13/2014 to 09/19/2014

I think I edited my post just before you replied. Found the RM-984 link, thanks :). So am I right that it won't support LTE on T-Mobile? If it did, I'd order it right away (might order it anyway, since the RM-985 is no where to be found yet). The User Guide suggest it doesn't: https://apps.fcc.gov/eas/GetApplicat...tml?id=2345712
