Long time reader, first time posting here. I have searched all over but have not found a resolution to my issues.

So I have a Lumia 920 on AT&T, coming up about two years of having it. I updates to 8.1 not too long ago, and have not has any issues until recently.

All of a sudden my music app will not launch at all. When I'm on the home screen, I go to the music app and it just flips directly back to the home screen. I have even tried it from the app list, and it does the same thing. I have tried soft reset multiple times, with no luck in resolving the issue. I have not done a hard reset yet, and i am hoping to fix this issue without do it.

Does anyone here have an idea on what to do to fix this without doing hard reset?

Also, I see that the 920 has issues with the phone thinking that headphones are always plugged in. From researching, it appears to be a hardware issue, does anybody have any fix for that issue aswell?

I'm greatly considering getting a Lumia 1520 due to these issues with my 920, but I am hoping something new will come out on AT&T that's like the Icon.

Thank you to anyone who is able to give any input!

had this before with other apps, most recently with weather bug. Only an uninstall/reinstall would fix it. of course this doesn't help you because there is no way to uninstall the Music app. I would try to start it in airplane mode. There may be a small chance that the crash is related to net connection issues.
I am sure you know what you are doing but wanted to emphasize that a soft reset is vol down and power button pressed the same time until phone reboots.
Do other music apps work?

It seems others had similar issues with headphone and it appears most of them send it in for repair.

You can easily replace the headphone jack in a Lumia 920.
More details in my post here
They only cost $5.50 on Ebay.

good luck. Hope a hard reset is not necessary

Thanks for the feedback y'all. Yeah, unfortunately soft reset doesn't work. Now the games app is doing the same thing, just flips back to the start screen. I plan on taking it to the Microsoft store tomorrow, not sure if there is much they can do to help other than a hard reset.

I really enjoy the Windows phone OS and I have always loved Nokia phones since back in the day, but this is starting to push me to switch to Android OS again.

Again thanks for the feedback y'all.

Update... I called Microsoft Store here in Frisco, TX. They cannot help me, they can transfer me to a specialist over the phone, but i would have to pay, which i am not going to do when it's their own freaking product. I am getting closer and closer to switching to Android because of this bs.

And now i cannot access my calender!

I understand the frustration. Before you switch though you should try a hard reset. Make sure your phone is set to back everything (Settings/Backup - apps+settings; text messages; photos+videos). Connect it to the PC and copy all Pictures and Music media from the phone to the PC.
I know this will take some time depending on the amount of images and music you have on the phone.

But, after hard reset and login to the same MS account it will ask you to Restore the phone with the latest backup. All settings and apps will be reinstalled automatically. You may have to re-initiate login for a few apps after that. Then copy the Music and Pictures back to your phone. You will be back up running just like before and hopefully your problems will vanish.

Your issue sounds very isolated. I have not seen anybody posting that three MS apps are refusing to start (as mentioned above, it sounds like a network or login issue). Again, I understand that you are frustrated but that would hardly take me to another OS, unless this happens to me with two or three different WP devices - or it's a widely known problem. Remember that other OSes have problems as well.

Good luck

Thanks for your input, I did speak with AT&T tech support today, pretty much hard reset is last resort. I will do a hard reset, but it also sucks that One Drive won't even launch now.
I think I have everything backed up, but could somebody tell me how to backup my contacts? That's my main concern. I dont want to have to write them all down just to save them..

your contacts should be backed up to your MS account by default. I never had problems after hard reset getting them all back (including my wife's L920). When you login to your MS account they will all be repopulated in your contact list. If you have gmail contacts, they will be added once you login back into your gmail account under settings/accounts + email and have it synchronize.

My Music app refused to play any songs about a month ago on my Lumia 1020 that's running on WP8.1.1 DP with Lumia Black.

It happened after I deleted all my music and re-added my music. I've found no solution except for a hard reset. MS should seriously consider giving us the option to uninstall their Music app to fix unexpected issues like these.

Sorry to bring this thread to the top, I just want to provide an update just incase if anybody else has this issue and I seeking a resolution.

I did a hard reset, and I also did the system restore. The system restore has worked so far.. I was also able to get all of my data back like Contact List, text messages, all apps previously downloaded just lost app data,.... I am now able to launch all of the apps that were not launching. Which that I know of was;
Music, Games, One Drive, Calendar (All the stock/default apps that come with Windows Phone 8.1, and Facebook Beta. Those are the ones that I was aware of.

So everything is working so far, I will make sure to update this thread if the issue comes back

Thanks everyone for their help.
