Anyone else dissapointed with the Lumia 920 camera ?

I'm using nokia cam recording with 1080p and for the images 16:9 ratio. Running on the latest software WP8.1 and Lumia Cyan. What ticks me off the most is the night videos in Youtube were superbly clear. I've tried doing the same with my 920 for 3 days straight but all failed to produce the quality. I'm suspecting the night videos uploaded in Youtube weren't recorded with a Lumia 920 phone. What do you think ?

I've had my ups and downs with the L920. I've had to hard reset and use the Nokia Software Recovery Tool most times after an update as my camera typically goes wonky.

On the whole, once I do that my camera is OK but I know there are many people who think any update past Portico that the camera is no longer a PureView as the processing software has gone downhill.

As I'm not able to view the video's at work (where I am) I cannot comment on the pics. I know that I have trouble with any night time photos and not all my photos are that great but for the most part I'm happy.

I've hard reset it yesterday but no luck.The camera quality is horrible if were to compare to the ones in the internet. You should see the pics and vids when you're free. My 920 camera is really a potato. :unhappysweat:

The pictures near the end of it are with Black/Cyan updates.

I'd recommend using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool. That's what helped me when my camera went off.

It's like a hard reset except you need a PC and internet connection. It downloads and installs a new firmware. My guess is your's has become corrupt.

Its so hard to believe 920 can capture such image :unhappysweat: . Those are really amazing shots I must say. Anyways , I've downloaded the recovery tool and plugged my 920 in the pc. Its now downloading something of 1.6gb ? This is really weird , when I check updates in my 920 it says im running on latest updates but now its downloading some software into it. Is this suppose to happen ? :shocked:

Yes it's a completely new firmware. Your old one is erased.

Kind of like formatting a computer and re-installing Windows.

When I saw your post I was wondering what version of Nokia Camera you had as it no longer has the Saving... screen. Have you tried the stock WP camera?

What about pictures outside? Are they any good? Are you making sure you take the time to have the focus adjust etc? The camera is a bit slow in the L920.

Hmmp mine seems to have the Saving screen even after the updates. The Nokia Camera version 4.8.4.3. The stock camera is no better than the nokia camera. Took a couple of pictures outside and yeah same horrible noises and grainy images. I did both tap to focus then snap and by just pressing the shutter button, they're both pretty much the same. I don't think its the focus issue here.

This image here is a screenshot of a nokia video i recorded. Again its a 5 second video , I'm not even shaking my hands. Its just sooo potato.

I'm going to suggest one more thing but I have to caution you first.

It's possible (not sure how likely though) that when restoring your stuff from backup some thing is corrupt and causing the phone not to perform properly. I did a hard reset and used the Nokia tool without doing the restore and my phone did work better.

I'm not saying it's correct or that it will work for you but it is something that I've personally run across along with others on this site. Think of it as a last option before sending your phone in for repair.

Up to you if you want to do it though. It's only a suggestion.

On second thought I might buy the Lumia 930 and hopefully doesnt have these problems .This 920 here is just too troublesome. Really appreciate for helping me out. :]

The L930 appears to have issues as well.

My 920 recently become weird with videos (and photos to a lesser extent). White balance got hell weird, videos would be too bright, one video i recorded started off normal and then just faded to black. Also opening up the camera sometimes only showed black. Restarts fixed all these problems but still annoying so i sent it to nokia and they replaced the camera (phone is 23months old so juuuust scraped in within the warranty period).

Heck they replaced the headphone jack, proximity sensor, battery, and a bunch of other things that i said were being weird (also replaced the usb connector for some reason even though i never said it was faulty).

Hopefully it arrives tomorrow and I can see how the new camera is! Thanks Nokia!

I still dont get how people are able to film in the night without getting noises. I do have a screenshot of a recorded video above which the sky is suppose to be pitch black but turns out brighter than I expected + noises. Unfortunately my 920 doesnt have any warranty so yeah.. nikhilr51 ,would you mind taking some pictures and upload it here when your phone is ready ? I just wanna see how it turns out coz mine is purely a potato camera. Just dont know why... :angry:

Could it be that the lens cover on the back needs to be cleaned? I know it sounds silly, but I've taken photos before, found them to be terrible, then cleaned it off with my shirt, and then they looked perfect. I'm assuming you've already done this, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.
