Unlocking L1020 By AT&T for India

I recently bought the L1520 and want to give the L1020 to a niece in India. Apart from selecting the "restart" option in the phone and contacting AT&T to unlock it, are there any specific steps I will need to take? Before the L1020 I had an iPhone, which I supposedly had unlocked by AT&T, and gave to a nephew in India, but he later said he had to pay to get it unlocked.

Any pointers appreciated.

Also, the OS version has the developer's preview: 8.10.14176.243 Would I need to run the Nokia recovery tool first before resetting it?
