Well the prototype 985 on eBay is being sold for ~$360. Once the Rogers firmware is out, the prototype firmware can be flashed to it to get the official Denim. That's a great price for an unlocked pentaband 830 rather than buying the Rogers variant plus add another $50 for the unlock

Other than tax is there some other additional cost involved?

Yes. You have to sign up to a month to month plan but can cancel after one month. That's what month to month means. But check out the MS store if you can. They got around this with my 1020

Whoah. Hold off on that. If they are not the same RM model then you could kill bands. Just like how you can't flash a global 1020 firmware on a Rogers 1020. From what I have read, the Rogers version will offer compatible aws bands

The global variant is not the same as the North American variant. Rogers variants do support more bands than the ones sold here on ATT. Well that was in the past though (current Lumias)

How long after the Rogers 1020 release did you have to wait before you got it from the MS Store?

Really skeptical about this, although the specs sheet on their site does list that...

Rogers' 920 and 1020 did have the AWS bands as well so it's probably safe to assume that the 830 does too.

Although it would be best to have a guinea pig test it out as another poster mentioned :D

Just tried to buy an unlocked 830 from Rogers at Yorkdale and was denied because they don't sell unlocked phones to non-rogers customers.

Looking up CRTC rules now...

As far as I know, CRTC doesn't mandate telecos to sell unlocked phones. What it does mandate, however, is the option for the customer to immediately unlock the device from the company provided it was bought unsubsidised and the customer is willing to pay the unlock fee.

Picked it up at the Microsoft store in Metrotown for 399 with 30 day return. Rogers locked version. Came with green and black back covers. So far really nice.
