If the 830 is the first to get the "Microsoft" branding I am so buying it!
That's not happening. The 830 has the Nokia branding on it. It and the 730/735 are the last handsets to have it.

I have been trying out an 830 from Nokia/MS and yes it is a great little phone. Things I don't like is the feedback from the buttons its so weak its almost pointless being on there. I have a 930 but would love yo have had the glance screen, sd slot and removable back cover but also the front camera from 730. I also like the speaker better on the 830 to the 930

Does 'double-tap to wake' work reliably on the 830? I have a 925 and it works about 30% of the time.

Fun thread. Nice to see the L830 has been a nice surprise. I think MS's idea to package it at the announcement as an affordable flagship was the sole reason for the pushback on this phone. Everyone knows the 8XX series is the step below the flagship, with a few trade-offs to get the price down. The L830 hits all the right markers for it to be a top end 8XX series, and a serious improvement over any dual core WP. My L920 is quite a bit more sluggish with 8.1 on it. I am willing to bet the real life performance of the L830 will make me all shades of envious.

Keep the love coming!! I need the good news....
It sure is sounding good. I can't wait to get my hands on it come Nov 7!

I've come to understand on my 822 that is not really Double tap but "Triple" tap. Try it.

Agreed, the haptic feedback is to weak and needs to be increased. I hope this can be done via some quick firmware update, independently of the carriers.

Funny thing is I like the weak haptic feedback. An adjustable intensity would be a good solution.

Actually, the 830's screen is massively better. It uses an RGB matrix which appears much sharper, is brighter and has better viewing angles and more natural colors.(Of course if you like the AMOLED contrast you still have the option in screen settings)

True, although I just heard of a sighting of a Lumia 735 with Microsoft branding. No joke.

Yeah branding may be something that can be changed fairly easily even during production. Quite frankly, it will be cool either way, if I get the last Nokia branded phone, or the first Microsoft one.

I think most people are angry at the fact that the L830 won't (or supposedly won't) get the "Hey Cortana" function in Denim and that it has the 400 chipset in it. However, I believe for the average consumer and for the OS it's plenty enough to do the job and smoothly I might add.

I'll admit it...I was one of these people that talked down about the L830. But, it's refreshing to see someone that loves it. To some people, it's not about the specs, but the experience itself. Glad that the OP enjoys his experience.

I absolutely love my Lumia 830 though I have experienced two problems. One is the inconsistent vibration of the Capacity buttons and the main one is that the text sometimes flicker when you scroll slowly. Try it by opening "Office" and choose "Sample Document." Scroll slowing and you will see the text will flicker a bit. I think this is just a firmware issue and can be fixed. There are issues like the same one for Lumia 920, 925 and 1020. Try it yourself....

I like my 830 too . I wanted to replace my 810 because nit because it was bad but because no support ( 810 FTW ) I held to to a high standard and it had no issues what so ever . So I bought the 830 and I think this is the best 8xx series phone yet :)

What's the problem with the AMOLED screen, apart from no glance? just curious as I am considering buying the 930 this week as a replacement for my 920

Nokia supposedly declared that the big colors for 2014 are green and orange.

Looking at other consumer products from this year, I've been surprised to notice how RIGHT they were about that. Who decides this things!?

Well the S400 is nothing if not power efficient. I'm glad you like it, OP. I was sceptical about it at launch but everyone is praising it a lot, plus the camera reviews coming in show that it's pretty good at photography as well.

It would be awesome to have as a second phone for me, but the price is a turn off. Here in Pakistan it's equivalent to $450 at the moment. Which is about $70-100 more than I'm willing to spend on a second device. :(

fake colour, screen burn, short lifespan.

All of which are completely overblown issues.

    1. Image retention isn't an issue, since:
    a. the newer-gen OLED displays have much better power efficiency.
    b. WP doesn't have too many static elements on screen
    c. You can keep the screen brightness lower because of the clearblack display, prolonging pixel lifespan even more

    2. Saturated "fake" colours can be really toned down using display settings. Unless professional-level colour reproduction is required, it's not really a big issue. But this one is subjective though.

I got silver frame with black back and it looks sharp. I would prefer cyan too, but I figure you can replace it if that ever comes out. Don't be fooled by the megapixel count, the camera is very capable. Try to get your hands on one and see for yourself!
Agree, I've been seeing low light shots compared with the iphone 6s and the 830 is the clear winner on that one. Pretty impressive. Hope you could share a picture of the silver frame with the black cover. That would look awesome.

I have owned by 830 for nine days now, actually had a sim in it for six (apparently checking the sim size was too much responsibility for me).

There is little to add other than how fantastic this phone is. I have owned the 710, 800, 900, 920, 928, ATIV S, and this phone. The size of the ATIV S, which was actually my second to last phone, was always my favourite. Unfortunately I destroyed it last December, and picked up an unlocked 928 (I am on Rogers).

All I want (but do not need) and do not have is different colour backs. I wouldn't mind having a few colours to alternate between. Many Bell stores do have accessories, I have found, but you need to ask for them.

Admittedly when I first bought the device I actually had some buyer's remorse and wondered if I should return it. As soon as I actually got the device going that went away immediately, and I have not looked back.

    my 810 begs to differ.
    1) you can manage the "fake color " with in display"
    2) after 2 years of using my 810 I did not have this color burn in and to this day its still looks as I first got it
    3) nope ..looks as vibrant as the day I got It

No problem, a matter of personal preference. I like the natural colors better. And the rgb matrix opposed to the pentile..
